THE BATTLE FOR SUPREMACY PART TWO: DRAKE. Written by Jason Andre Roberts aka CONQUEST. In the midst of the most ratchet & ignorant soundscape that mainstream hip-hop has seen in quite some time, there are still artists like a @vincestaples, @Royce59, @iamthacorner & @ruslankd who are at the very least, attempting to say something substantial with deft lyricism & great songcraft Lyricism in particular has become somewhat of an "endangered species" within hip-hop in the minds of the staunchest of rap purists, but three artists in particular have raised the bar literally & figuratively for the focus on well executed verbal gymnastics due to their war of words in the last year. I think it's time to look at these emcees from a closer vantage point. @champagnepapi aka DRAKE: Aubrey Drake Graham is arguably the most popular rapper in the world, to the point that mixed reviews of #Views didn't stop it from going double platinum in record time. Still, since "Back To Back" his writing has not been as consistently potent as it once was & with the disappearance of HUSH & QUENTIN MILLER from his writing credits on past projects, it's obvious that had notable assistance in writing his incredibly constructed bars. Lately Joe Budden has been calling him out on it in a barrage of dis records of his own and just when you thought Drake wouldn't respond, he drops "NO SHOPPING" with French Montana with the results being decent enough, but it wasn't #4pmInCalabasas.
