Yeowch!  That smarts.  The heel of a gloved thumb massages the edge of Shadow’s lower mandible.  Who would have thought that worm of a boy, Jack Spicer, would have been so quick to throw a solid punch.  She can already feel her jaw swelling.  This had better not bruise or there will be worse to deal with.

Poor Jack is already freaking out, probably.  Or at least she would be in his shoes.  “Good job, Jack.  Now let’s get some ice for this before you-know-who finds out.”

   The current state of affairs in Chase’s citadel is as follows:

   Jack, having missed Shadow for quite some time, felt ballsy enough to actually make his way to Chase’s citadel and ask for her by his lonesome. Of course, Chase wouldn’t dare to actually let Shadow leave-- and Jack quotes-- ‘with someone like you, Spicer’, which led Jack to mutter some cruel insult to Chase-- to which ultimately led to a verbal spat between the two.

   What happened next is Shadow walking into said situation, and Jack turning around sweetly, Chase scoffing, to which Jack gave Chase the universal sign for ‘screw you’.

   “Ah, fuckin’ hell, Baatar,” Nergüi snarls at the dog the size of a bear that has been dragging him all over town. This was supposed to be a quick walk, maybe even a play at a park on the way but no. The stupid, lovable beast decided her wanted to chase any smell he came across. How can Nergüi deny him that joy? Since the fucking dog has the strength of a bear. He really should have invested in more lessons.

   Baatar comes to a stop out the front of the school Nergüi is supposed to attend just as the last bell rings. Great big barks booming from his bouncing bulk and tail wagging like crazy. He turns back to his master, tongue lulling from his jaw and brow shadowed eyes excited. Nergüi can only chuckle, shaking his head at the beast.

   “Oh, now I see what you’re after,” Nergüi drops to a knee, grabbing the big fluffy head and giving it a ruffle. “Wanted to some lady attention, huh? You’re an attention whore, Baatar.”

   Bare, silent feet pad through the dark, empty halls of the citadel. There is a sneer on once kind lips, disgust at her surroundings. It is all so drab and dreary. Confining walls pressing down on her on all sides. Where are the jewels? Where are the bright flowers and open sky? No one should live like this.

   It is a good thing, a merciful thing that she has come to liberate the soul that is forced to live in such squaller. It is what Shadow needs after all. Mia has always known what is best for the girl and now she has the means to give it to her. Away from all this decay and to a place where she can thrive. There is no way she can refuse such an offer.

   But Shadow is not the only reason she has come to this place, oh no. Mia’s enlightenment was … violent and in her awed terror she ran from the being that gave her this gift. He did not come for her afterwards so Mia was forced to learn of her new power alone. Learning from the last person to be given this gift is her best course of action, the fact that she doesn’t have to speak with him is just a bonus.

   Oh, and then there is the large stockpile of soup she needs to acquire. Can’t let this gift ruin her stunning beauty now, can she?

Another day of school. Another day of not knowing what the fuck to do with himself.

Upon entering the first-period classroom, Jack made a beeline to his normal seat; in the back left-corner of the room--only to blink and freeze mid-step as he saw someone already sitting in it.

A girl, green-eyed with big, dyed teal hair.

“You know I can see you, right?” Jermaine calls out while he dribbles the ball. She wasn’t being auspicious if someone normal like him could spot her within minutes. Of course, who else is clad in armor in the middle of Manhattan?

A simple, but vague gesture to his hairstyle.  “Care to explain that to me?”
