Theme announcement đđ
This yearâs TEDxUNC theme is Bodies: Being Human. Our theme statement is this:
âAt TEDxUNC Bodies, we strive to explore the human body from multiple perspectives. Weâll first delve into what we do for our body- inputs that can make our body thrive or struggle. After that weâll probe topics that cover what our body can do for us- how can we use our body as a tool? Then, weâll explore some challenges that currently relate to the human body- questions about race, gender, sexuality, and eating disorders that our generation must answer. Finally, weâll look forward to the future of the human body- what advances will we make in the near and far future that will allow us to expand our capacity as a species? And what challenges come with those advances?â
To organize the conference weâve divided it into four sections: inputs, outputs, issues, and frontiers. Body inputs refers to what we do for our body and can include topics like sleep, meditation, GMOs, nutrition, and addiction. Outputs approaches what our body does for us, which incorporates topics like athletics, using the body as a form of expression by singing and dancing, and lastly, modifying the body from its original state with tattoos, piercings, and plastic surgery. The section of body issues consists of topics ranging from immigration to mental health to micro aggressions and even gun control. Body âfrontiersâ may have focuses on research in 3-D printing, prosthetics, virtual reality and artificial intelligence, and data analysis.
Weâre excited to produce a dynamic conference approaching the human body in an interdisciplinary way.
