When watching the Larry Clark Interviews on Destricted they exhibited opinions of young men who were asked if they would like to have sex with a porn star. One said remembering a pornographic film he watched “She was really tiny and he was so big he like, broke her in half. That really got me off.” Implying he enjoyed the idea of this woman being so small and frail the man could have his way with her regardless of what she wanted. Highlighting she would be powerless and an object for enjoyment. This indicates this young man enjoyed looking at that woman as a small and weak creature. Similar to a toy you wouldn’t care for with emotion. Another young man said, “I don’t find it degrading at all the only people who do I think are embarrassed by themselves because they’re overweight or not pretty, so they feel ashamed.” This shows us he doesn’t find anything wrong with women being looked at in pornography even though the scenes or imagery might be degrading or sexually objectifying, because it turns him on. Disregarding women’s feelings just because he assumes they’re “not pretty.” Women may find pornography degrading for a number of reasons such as they feel like they’re not been seen as humans with emotions, desires or opinions like men are. Another mentioned he would enjoy “aggressive, loud, anal sex with hair pulling and biting” These remarks made by a young man who is the future of our generation could have a big impact on how women are treated in society. This could increase rape and sexual assault as their opinion majorly insinuates they don’t care about a woman’s consent, opinion or feelings due to the aggressive or sexual nature they have towards women suggested by that statement.

Decreasing the Amount of Structures

After talks with Stuart, Gareth, Lisa & Andrew I have decided to get rid of the box-like structures. All the structures were very aggressive in comparison to the delicate nature of the video. I made my video so it could be projected on to a small screen to invite people to stand close to it. The structures were doing the opposite because I realised that it might not be clear for the viewers to go inside.

I began to try and disguise sections of my photographs with glitches instead of using spaces in my work. I tried to use this as a glitch to disguise the obvious parts of Barbie, but I do prefer a space to create two separate images. As this doesn’t really hide the obviousness of Barbie, it just creates a distraction.
