the corner of her mouth turns up some in a bit of a smile, but not truly amused. if a tree falls in a forest, and no one were around to hear it, does it still make a sound ? the idea still fits with the ideas of whispers. if one citizen whispers, and no one were to hear it ? does the rumors still spread ? okay, well, the idiom doesn’t exactly translate, but enough so where temperance understands that what she has done and why it is she’s become more of a celebrity than she should have. and she believes that the kalarian race does have it’s place to be displeased with how it is she is ruling. invaders came in and took their homes, erected bases, they have infiltrated what was once theirs and sacred. they should not believe in her, but in fairness, they are not the monarchy. while temperance lives day after day for these people, they are not the ones who have to live with the knowledge that they were the ones allowing this. unfortunately, they are only living it. but on that same hand they are not the ones working relentlessly to reverse these damages, or at least the immediate ones. once kalara is released from the empire’s stranglehold there are going to be scars for generations of which temperance just cannot and will not be able to fix.

“Nope,” Nico replied, finger tracing the rim of the cup he’d just been drinking from. He’d been lucky that he’d been found and brought to Freetown at all.

At the worst, he could have just been left to die, and the second worst, he could have been brought to almost any other city on Tatooine. The planet really didn’t have a lot going for it, Nico considered not for the first time, but still he felt himself inexplicably drawn to the dusty rock. At least he hoped that was what was happening and he wasn’t just losing it finally.

the sky was an inky wash with light pricking through in freckles. below, people were still celebrating. a large, red bonfire pushed against the dark, laughing folks circled around its light, smoke mingled with a soft stringed melody. din watched the swirling flames with a tilted head, straying a glance at the metal cot beside him; the child was fast asleep.

the deep peace of the scene sunk into his bones and renounced the taut of his life and its constant battles. there was something else there, something embracing and warm that felt a thousand blooms. he was beside his son, he was beside cobb. all was well.

kalara was once a safe space. temperance opening the doors to her planet to all who needed amnesty from the galactic empire. this was a face she was proud of. that was of course, until the day came where they weren’t as safe as she thought. held captive in the confines of her own walls, she was given a sole choice. either allow the empire to occupy her home, or face destruction. thousands of people who were born kalarian or now consider themselves to be would lose not only their home but their life if she refused. the weight of what was to be sitting heavy upon shoulders and heart.  of course what was a queen to do when it came to her people ? they are not the ones who should pay for her insolence. the crimes that the empire will perform on her planet are greater than she can even imagine, knowing the refugees she houses and the feeling of disappointment she’s instilled within kalarians everywhere for allowing such actions to happen.
