When I was a child, the Langoliers hadn't been invented yet. We had Anatole. Anatole made all sorts of things disappear, edible or not, and got up to a few bits of mischief too. So it was quite easy to blame him for things that had mysteriously disappeared, or for things nobody really wanted to take responsibility for. Years later, Stephen King invented the Langoliers. I have to admit, they're more impressive. So now, when something belonging to the past has completely disappeared, I can always choose between two explanations: the Langoliers ate it, or Anatole took care of it. I knew Anatole first. But I have a crush on the Langoliers.
