My Mother loves all genres of music -- gospel, R&B, classical, Caribbean, country and the blues. I remember she enjoyed playing B.B. King and Bobby Blue Bland when she was cleaning the house on Saturdays. “Ain’t Nobody’s Business,” “Lucielle” and “The Thrill Is Gone” would blast from the stereo as my Mother went about her chores. As a kid, I didn’t understand the blues -- it was dark and moody. Now, as an adult, I have a greater appreciation for the history, emotional power, and story telling of the blues. B.B. King was known as “The King Of The Blues” because of the brilliant connection with his Gibson guitar Lucille and evocative power of his music, sound and lyrics. “I wanted to connect my guitar to human emotion,” King once said. You did THAT Sir and connected us to our souls through your beautiful and authentic music and lyrics. Thank you for adding your unique texture, authenticity and grace to the soundtrack of our lives and for your enormous musical contributions to our culture. The trill will never be gone because of your vision, music and artistry. Rest in peace.
