Remembering Herbert Huncke, “godfather of the Beats,”  who was born 106 years ago today in Greenfield, MA.  “who walked all night with their shoes full of blood on the snowbank docks waiting for a door in the East River to open to a room full of steam-heat and opium,”  It was Huncke that showed up at Allen’s apartment near the East River, bloodied feet and destitute.
