Hermione couldnât control her reaction to the cold. Especially not since everything that had happened during the war. It was as if the entire experience had stripped her of her outer shell and she was just there. Raw and uncovered.
So when the entire Weasley clan had insisted they go outside to gather around a bonfire, she started shivering immediately at the mere thought of being out there in the bitter cold. She was able to hide it well from all of them except Fred, who seemed to suffer from the same affliction.
He was sitting as close as he dared to the warmth of the fire, with a large blanket wrapped around his shoulders.
She squealed slightly when he reached for her hand, his fingers warm as they wrapped around hers. He tugged her closer and closer until she fell into his lap, his nose in her hair inhaling her scent.
This wasnât a new development, theyâd been dancing around this for ages, even going so far as to hold hands in front of other people. So not only did they know something was happening, other people did as well.
And despite Fredâs propensity for teasing, no one seemed to tease either of them about this.
Maybe they could tell how much both of them needed it, and therefore simultaneously let it happen.
Or maybe they could see that theyâd always sort of been heading in this direction and they were just relieved it was finally happening.
Whichever it was, everyone already treated them as a couple. And neither Fred nor Hermione discouraged it.
She squirmed in his lap as he wrapped the blanket around her shoulders and she could feel just how interested and pleased he was that she was where she was.
It was pressing rather unrelentingly against her bum and the more she moved, the more prominent it became, and the more stuttered Fredâs breath became.
âI really just wanted to help you get warm,â he confessed before he nibbled on the shell of her ear.
âYouâre doing a wonderful job,â she replied, squirming once more and liking the reaction she got. His hand tightened on her leg in a vain attempt to keep her still. âIâm becoming quite warm indeed.â
He pressed his hand down on her knee. âJust there, Mione...â
âThere?â she asked, pressing herself down a bit more.
He inhaled sharply and nodded, lowering his head to kiss her neck. His arms tightened around her waist, holding her in place as she leaned back against his chest, her head resting on his shoulder as she concentrated both on the way he was breathing, and also the actions of everyone else at the bonfire. Â None of whom were looking at them. But that didnât mean anything. Plus, she was a rather impatient person. What with all the dancing around this theyâd done in the recent weeks, between snogging until neither could breathe and keeping enough distance for Merlin, Godric Gryffindor, and his mother to fit between them, she was more than a bit anxious.
She tilted her head up, pressing a soft kiss to his jaw and noting how his skin erupted in gooseflesh the second her lips touched him. âFred?â
âHmm?â he asked, his voice impossibly low and breathy.
âWould you like to go inside?â
âYes,â he said quickly, shifting somewhat. She rose from his lap and he remained still for a moment, looking nervously around before standing and wrapping the blanket around his shoulders.
She half expected someone to stop them. To ask where they were going, but not even Mrs. Weasley seemed interested. She was currently gulping down what had to be her third cup hard cider of the night with Bill and Charlie across the yard.
Hermione bit her lip and reached for Fredâs hand only to have him tug her to a halt just inside the door, the blanket falling from his shoulders as he gently twisted her around and into his arms. His lips caught hers in a very firm and very aggressive kiss, but one that pulled back slightly at the end, as if he was asking her if this was alright.
âWas thinking weâd head to your bedroom,â she said, grinning a bit as he did the same.

Wearing silver to punish your vampire S.O
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hermione pulled the necklace out from her shirt, letting the silver pendant rest against her breastbone while she reached for her quill and began to write on the parchment.
He appeared beside her, and then just as quickly he moved away.
âOy, thatâs not fair,â he whined, taking a seat a bit further away from her.
She chuckled. âWell, Iâm angry with you, Fred.â
âAngry with me? What did I do? Did I wear a revolting material that you hate and canât stand to be near as well?â
Hermione shot him a look and rolled her eyes. âDo you really not know, or are you playing dumb?â
âI think you know me well enough to know that when Iâm being dumb, I donât need to play at it, Granger.â He grinned and his fangs glinted in the light. âWhat did I do, love? Iâm sorry for whatever it was.â
She sighed. âYou went out hunting.â
âWith George,â he countered. âI wasnât alone.â
âYou know theyâre out hunting vampires, Fred. You know that, because Iâve told you. I asked you to stay home.â
âThey wonât stake me or George, Mione. Youâre worrying over nothing. Besides, I have to eat. And George and I... weâre only killing wild animals.â
âIâve already told you what you could do instead,â she replied primly. âAngelina and I already spoke with both of you.â
âIâm not doing that to you,â he said, and she felt the heat from his eyes as he stared at her. âBesides. When youâre wearing that disgusting necklace, I canât do it anyway.â
She smirked, shrugging before speaking again. âWell, since youâd rather feed on rats and deer, I assumed you wouldnât care.â But she still reached up and tugged the necklace up and over her head, getting it tangled in her hair briefly before freeing it and stuffing it into her pocket.
He was at her side in an instant, nuzzling along her neck, right where her pulse thrummed. âI love you, Mione... I would never---â
âI want you safe,â she reiterated.
âAnd I want you safe,â he countered.
âYou donât trust yourself?â she asked.
âCourse I do.â
She gave him another one of those looks. One of those that used to make him all hot under the collar when he was human. Now that he wasnât, it just made him hungry.
âYou trust me?â he asked, running his fingertips over her throat.
âAlways,â she replied.
He nodded and leaned down, scraping his fangs over her throat. âWill it make me smarter, I wonder?â
She giggled. âGuess youâll have to try it and find out.â
âOuch. Fuck. Sorry!â
The girl stumbled over his feet, over-correcting and nearly falling on her face. Or she would have, if he hadnât hopped up to grab her arm.
âWhoa...â Her eyes were wide as she gazed up at him. âWhat the fuck was that, dude?â
âIâm fast. My reflexes are impeccable.â Pietro said with a grin, inspecting her quickly to make sure she was fine. âYou okay?â
âI mean, I was about to get a mouthful of mud and probably have to leave before the only band I care about seeing even takes the stage, and now, Iâm just... a little starstruck, but otherwise, good.â She grinned and Pietro felt his heart flutter in his chest a little.
Not that heâd ever admit to something as cheesy as that.
But her smile was cute. She had a gap in her teeth and pink streaks in her hair.
âIâm Darcy,â she said. âAnd you said youâre âFastâ? Is that a first or a last name?â
âNo, no, my name is Pietro... and I *am* fast, just a fact, not what Iâm called...â he said, trailing off when he realized she was grinning a little wider than before. She was joking. âAh, but youâre kidding. Very cute, Darcy.â
âKind of my thing. I mean, that and like... graduate school.â
âGraduate school, huh?â Pietro suddenly felt very out of his league. Not only was she cute, she was smart. Smarter than him, anyway.
âYeah.â
âWhat do you study?â
âAstrophysics.â
âReally?â he asked, eyes wide.
âYeah... does that intimidate you, Pietro?â Darcy asked.
âDefinitely. But thatâs kind of my thing. That and being fast.â He grinned and her cheeks pinked. âI enjoy being intimidated by women who are clearly too good for me.â
When she laughed this time, her cheek dimpled. His heart fluttered a second time, and he had to swallow thickly to stop it. âSo, um... you have seats?â he asked, gesturing towards the amphitheater beyond.
âNope. Didnât you hear? Iâm in graduate school. And therefore broke. I got lawn seats.â
âMe too... you wanna... share my blanket?â
Wanda harrumphed from behind him. âItâs *my* blanket.â
âMy sisterâs blanket,â Pietro said, rolling his eyes. âBut I bought our tickets so...â
Darcy peered around Pietro, waving and grinning at Wanda. âHi! Iâm Darcy. Do you mind if I join you?â
âNot at all.â He heard Wanda start to shift and he mentally thanked her, turning back to give her a grateful look before returning his attention to Darcy.
âSo youâll join us?â
âDefinitely. Beats sinking slowly in the mud, yeah?
âYeah,â he said, stepping back while she maneuvered around him to perch on the edge of the blanket, her muddy shoes keeping well clear of the fabric.
âThis is old,â Pietro said, moving to sit down beside her. Next to, not too close. Close enough she could hear him  though. âOur dog had at least five litters on it. So donât worry about messing it up.â
âThis is your heirloom puppy blanket?â Darcy asked, reaching down to slide her shoes off and leave them together at the edge of the hem. âI definitely donât want to mess this up, then.â
Pietro grinned, his face flushing as she scooted up right next to him, but back a ways, her legs crossed out in front of her.
He moved so he was adjacent to her once more, and she shifted closer, leaning over to murmur, âYouâre sure your sister doesnât mind?â
He glanced back at Wanda, who had her phone out, grinning at the screen, likely texting Bucky and telling him how she wished he was here.
âNah, she doesnât mind.â
âThatâs cool, because Iâm about to get embarrassing when my fave plays my song. Just FYI.â
âDefine embarrassing.â
âLike, my voice will raise several octaves and I may cry.â
âCry?â Pietro repeated, chuckling a little.
âLook dude. I LOVE Blink okay? Donât second guess my love.â
âI would never make that mistake,â Pietro assured her.
âOkay, cool.â She leaned over and bumped his shoulder. âThanks for catching me when I fell.â
âThanks for falling,â he replied. âBest thing to happen all day.â
âWow, you are a cheeseball if I ever heard one,â Darcy laughed. âNo worries though. Cheese is my fave.â
âI thought Blink was your fave,â Pietro countered.
Walkashame - Meghan Trainor
~~~~~~~~~~
When Hermione walked through the front doors of Weasley Wizard Wheezes, she felt a bit more bedraggled than usual, but she had a good reason.
She could feel it in the skirt she put on inside-out that morning, and the cardigan she borrowed from Fred, and her sex hair that was so flat in back, she couldnât even backcomb it into its usual poofy-ness, let alone fix the dent she got from laying on her back for most of last night with little regard to her hair. Sheâd cast so many vanity charms on herself, she almost expected everyone to know immediately that sheâd spent the night with someone because she felt so artificial that it was obvious.
She would have had time to go home for a change of clothing, but Fred had made a lie-in followed by a very sexy shower look so tempting that she hadnât been able to resist.
She glanced down at the mustard-coloured jumper and widened her eyes in surprise. Sheâd also colour charmed the cardigan so George wouldnât recognize it when she got here first thing to go over their payroll and the rest of their books, and she wasnât yet used to the shade sheâd chosen.
Sheâd snuck out behind Georgeâs back that morning, hiding behind Fred as he pretended to go out to get the paper. And then theyâd snogged at the front door for a bit too long after that. She hoped George hadnât figured it out or heâd never let her hear the end of it. And she sort of wanted to keep this between herself and Fred for a bit longer. It was nice being in a bubble with no one to answer to.
Read Mrs. Weasley.
She was a wild card, that one. Molly would either be ecstatic or furious. Hermione didnât fancy finding out just yet.
âMorning, Hermione,â George called.
She smiled and lifted her hand.
âMorning, Mione,â Fred said, standing just behind his brother and giving her a once over, frowning a bit because she had done all the charmwork after sheâd left him that morning. His cardigan was still miles too big, and she hadnât quite mastered tailoring charms yet, so sheâd just left it, wearing it as a sort of an oversized duster sort of thing. She pushed up the sleeves and charmed her hair to stay up with only a pencil sticking through it. She supposed that the look was like a sexy librarian or something.
She grinned at him and quickly schooled her features because if she gave Fred more of a greeting than George, heâd absolutely figure it out. And as far as she could tell, George hadnât figured out anything yet.
âWhere are the books?â she asked, glancing back at the desk.
âOh, over here, we got something on the desk just now,â Geroge said. âNot to worry, weâll keep our spells contained and away from you and your numbers, love.â
âLike you did for the desktop?â she teased, pulling out her wand and opening the books to the correct pages.
She looked up and down the columns, fixing this, and balancing that. Â She kept glancing up at Fred, who in turn, kept glancing over at her.
Once she had to shoot him a look. One he mirrored. Hers said, âStop staring at me, you nutter!â Â And his said, âYou only know that because youâre staring at me.â
She stifled a smile and looked down at the pages again.
âOops, bloody hell,â George swore. Hermione looked up just in time to get splashed from head to toe with blue goo.
She spat it from her mouth and reached up to rub it out of her eyes. She cleaned out her ears just in time to hear George cry out a counter charm. One that did the equivalent of stripping every charm and spell from the immediate area. She couldnât stop him quickly enough and soon stood there in Fredâs maroon cardigan, yesterdayâs skirt, now on inside out, and her hair in a shambles.
Blowing out her breath she shifted her weight and crossed her arms. âI wish you hadnât done that.â
âClearly...â George said, snorting. âIf I didnât know any better, Iâd say you stayed over at someoneâs last night. Got a good shag, did you?â
Her eyes flew wide and George started laughing. âNice. Great job, Granger. Isnât that great, Gred?â
And Fred, bless him. Wasnât prepared for being dragged into this. He stammered a few times before he managed a weak smile. âAmazing. Forge.â The last bit was added as an afterthought.
George took one look at Fred and knew exactly who had been shagging Granger the night before.
âBlimey, thatâs your cardigan, Fred! Caught you on the walk of shame, Granger! What, you couldnât give her enough time to swing by her flat? Wait... you were at ours this morning?â he asked a twinkle in his eye.
Fred turned a shade of scarlet that rivaled his cardigan and Hermione took a deep breath.
âOh come off it, George. You know I share a flat with Angelina. Iâve seen you slink home in things of hers. You wore her jumper once, remember that?â
George swallowed and nodded. âYeah, uh... we should put in a Floo connection upstairs.â
âFinally,â Hermione breathed.
âIâve been saying that for years,â Fred said, piping in.
âAnd you,â Hermione said stiffly. âNow, youâre talking? But you had nothing to say while I was being raked over the coals before? For shame, Fred Weasley. Â For shame.â
He quickly crossed the floor, apologies jumbled together and making him look quite ashamed indeed.
âI was wrong before,â George muttered. âThatâs the walk of shame.â
When they woke up that morning, Hermione could tell it was cold. Not because it was drafty in the bedroom, but because of the feel of the air. It had that feeling, where you could just tell it was freezing outside and youâd see your breath the second you set foot out there.
That and her boyfriend was already up for the day and out of bed. And the only reason Theo would be up at this hour was if it was freezing and he needed to go start the fire and have some tea to get ready for the day.
As much as sheâd like to stay in bed for a bit longer to preserve the warm cocoon of blankets sheâd been cultivating during the night, she also wanted to go see Theo and kiss him good morning.
She rose and pulled on her housecoat to trudge out to the kitchen. Â There was a cup of tea with a spoon charmed to keep stirring it on the counter. Â She knew it was for her, Theo never made tea without also making some for her.
She took it and removed the spoon, muttering a quick cleaning charm and frowning at the streaks that it left on the surface. She still hadnât really mastered these spells yet, but it didnât matter really, she guessed, muttering the charm again and leaving the spoon mirror-clean and she sent it to the drawer.
Hermione didnât see Theo anywhere, but she did note that his boots werenât at the door. Sighing heavily, she took a long hot sip of her tea and returned to the bedroom to dress. She chose a lumpy sweater and a pair of thermal leggings before pulling on a pair of insulated trousers and her coat. She didnât bother with her hair, because it kept her warmer when it was allowed to go out on its own.
She slipped on her own boots and went outside, feet crunching in the snow as she made her way down to the lake. She knew that was where Theo was because of the footprints heâd left in the snow behind him.
She found him puffing on a cigarette and watching the smoke curl into the sky. Â She nearly gasped at the lake. Normally a lovely place to swim and boat in the summer months, now it was frozen solid and smooth as a mirror on top. Â It was gorgeous and she whispered it softly.
Theo turned to face her, smiling as he held out his arm. He took out his ciggie and held it out as far away from her as he could. They likely looked rather comical sitting there, with one arm around her and the other holding his cigarette as far out as he could so she wouldnât have to smell it.
She still did a bit, but she didnât really care.
âGood morning,â she whispered.
âMorning to you,â he replied, taking a deep breath and dropping the cigarette on the ground at their feet. âSay, Granger... can I ask you something?â
âSure,â she said, smirking a little. She liked it when he called her Granger. He usually saved âHermioneâ for more intimate moments, so both names held a special place.
âHow attached are you to that name?â he asked.
âWhat?â she asked. âWhat do you mean?â
âI mean when you get married. Are you going to take your partnerâs name or hyphenate or what?â
âI mean, Iâll likely hyphenate if my partner wants to as well. Otherwise, Iâd keep my name and theyâd keep theirs.â
âGood to know,â he said, slipping his arm from around her shoulders and into his pocket.
âWhy do you ask?â
He simply shook his head and took a step forward, bending down to fix something on his boot and Hermione went back to gazing out over the lake.
Theo cleared his throat and she looked at him, frowning as she spied him on the ground. What was he still doing there?
âTheo---â
He pulled something out of his pocket, a small velvet box. Inside, a ring with the biggest and most colourful stone sheâd ever seen before in her life. She gasped slightly and he smiled.
âGranger, Iâll hyphenate my name if you hyphenate yours.â
Her stomach swirled excitedly and she felt herself bounce a bit on her toes before she nodded and took the ring from him. âYes, yes, I think I will.â
He chuckled and stood up, slipping an arm around her and pulling her close for a kiss. âSurprised?â
âYes and no,â she replied. âAnd thatâs how I always imagined it would be.â

Dahlia - Black tie affair
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hermione nearly tripped over the bench in front of her vanity in an effort to grab her shoes. Sheâd started out the door without them, and since they were going to a fundraising gala Ginnyâs Quidditch team was putting on, showing up barefoot would likely end up being the talk of the evening, and she didnât fancy being the talk of the evening again, thank you very much.
The torn dress debacle of â01 stuck out blatantly in her mind. She was arriving on time. With a date this time. A handsome date. Someone she was actively seeing.
Never mind that he was the practical joke king of Diagon Alley... or so he proclaimed and argued profusely with George over.
Fred had been ready for nearly a quarter of an hour, it was Hermione who was making them run late. What with her last minute charms to different parts of her gown, stray curls flying this way and that and breaking free of the up-do sheâd so painstaking gotten that afternoon, and now the shoes.
âIâm here, Fred! Iâm ready! Letâs...â She trailed off when she saw him, kneeling down at the bottom of the stairs, a velvet box in hand which he snapped open to reveal a ring made of white gold and a stone in the center that seemed to contain all the stars in the galaxy. Or at least, it was bewitched to look that way.
She gaped down at the ring and then up at Fred, back down to the ring again. âFred... what...â
âI was going to wait until we got home, but... I couldnât. I got impatient... I want to be yours. Officially, Granger.â
âOfficially...â she echoed, tears gathering in the corners of her eyes. âYes... Yes! Obviously, yes, Fred. Yes.â
âYouâre certain?â he teased. âYou donât want to think about it a bit more?â
âFred...â She knelt down in front of him, and he pulled the ring from the box and placed it on her finger.
âFits pretty well...â He said, smiling weakly as he held her hand in his. âYou like it?â
âI love it. And I love you.â She wrapped both arms around him and kissed him soundly, all thoughts of the gala gone from her mind. Let them be late. This was something she wouldnât mind making a big fuss over.
Harry cooed and gurgled, squealing as he grabbed hold of Remusâs nose from his place strapped to Jamesâs chest.
âStop riling him and help me,â James pleaded. âI told Lily weâd take care of the dinner, and here we are, ten minutes out and not a damn thing to show for it!â
âHarry said a new word.â
âFor the last time, âAglooâ is not a word. Itâs almost âiglooâ, but itâs not. And as much as I love to hear him babble, we have to get this at least on the way to being finished by the time Lils comes out of the bathroom.â
âFine, what do you want me to do?â Remus asked. âThe roast?â He flicked his wand and the raw rib roast began to cook in the air as it spun slowly to the serving plate. He set a warming charm on it and turned back to James. âWell? I did the roast, you do the puddings.â
Harry giggled and clapped.
âHe wants the puddings, James,â Remus stated, arching an eyebrow.
âI canât do the puddings if I donât do the roast. Iâve got to use the drippings.â
Remus rolled his eyes and muttered something under his breath, the roast lifting again and the drippings floating neatly through the air and into the flour and milk and eggs that were currently whipping itself in midair.
âIf youâre going to do it, bloody well do it and stop play-acting that you have no clue how to make a Yule dinner.â
âI never said nor did I imply I didnât know how to do this,â Remus said with a smirk. âYouâre the one who acts the supreme wizard of all home-crafts. I thought youâd want to do it.â
âRemus,â James said, reaching for a wooden spoon and handing it to Harry, who promptly put it in his mouth. âDo you know how to do a Yule dinner?â
âI might have done once or twice... or every year past,â he said with a smirk and James looked as if he either wanted to kiss him or wallop him one, so Remus ducked for good measure, which was good because Harry had grown tired of the spoon and had chucked it through the air.
It clattered to the floor and Remus went to the icebox. âWhat goes with a roast? Sprouts? And a mash?â
âGravy,â James added.
âAfter Iâve gone and done the puddings? You want gravy too? The decadence.â Remus clicked his tongue and shook his head, but proceeded to procure a rich brown gravy out of seemingly nowhere. It flowed into their gravy boat just as Lily stepped through the door.
âHowâs it going?â She leaned up to peck Remus on the cheek, then she crossed the floor to take Harry from James. She kissed James too but glanced at the table. âWhereâs the rest of it? Theyâll be here any minute! You know Petuniaâs going to be looking for any little thing to nitpick.â
âCalm down, Evans.â James leaned over to kiss her temple. âRemus has it under control, donât you?â
Remus answered with a self-satisfied flick of his wand to fill a bowl with mashed potatoes. âAlmost done. What do you want for dessert? Pie or Gingerbread?â
âBoth?â Lily mused. âBoth is good.â
âShe never could choose, this one,â James teased.
It earned him a swat, but a smile nonetheless. âIâll go make sure the rest of the house is presentable,â she called over her shoulder. She stopped in the doorway, Harry on her hip. âAnd thank you. For taking the stress for me. I feel much better having not thought about it all afternoon.â
âAnytime, Lily,â Remus said with a smile.
âYeah, now that we know he can cook, he can just do it from now on, yeah?â James grinned.
Chamomile - Meet-cute while waiting somewhere
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The queues at Gringottâs were never a short affair. Hermione actively avoided having to come in to the bank at all ever since theyâd come out with the cards attached to the accounts. Much like muggle debit cards, actually, but much larger because thatâs usually how things in the Wizarding World worked. But she could safely stow it in her bag or bewitch it to be smaller, so it was no matter.
But there was another sort of problem with hers and she needed it fixed. The only ones who could do that worked here at Gringottâs, so here she was. In the seemingly never-ending queue, taking up the entirety of her day off.
âSo do you think the queueâs actually this long or is it bewitched to look long to keep all the wix away who donât have genuine problems with their accounts?â a voice asked from behind her.
She chuckled. âOne has to wonder.â
âIf so, I applaud them their ingenuity. They must not have to put up with many silly problems.â
âIt depends. The wix who have silly problems might be very tenacious,â she replied.
âIs that you? Are you tenacious?â
She turned and looked into his dark eyes. âWhat do you think?â
âOy, Granger, didnât know that was you.â
She smirked and shrugged. âI had my hair dreaded, so itâs not so insane anymore. Itâs not your fault you didnât recognize me.â
âDo you recognize me?â
âNott, correct?â she asked, primly not turning around again as the queue took a half a step forward.
âNott, but you are correct,â he replied and she chuckled despite herself. It was just the sort of witty half-joke that she loved.
âHow many times do you get to use that line?â she asked.
âNot nearly as much as one might think,â he said. And the queue shifted forward three more steps as a few wix got fed up and stepped out of it. âSay, would you fancy a coffee after we finish up here?â
âMight be too late in the day for coffee by the time we get out of here.â
âToo right. A nightcap, then?â
She laughed again, turning to look at him, narrowing her eyes as she scrutinized him. âAlright.â
âJolly good,â he said bluntly. âSomething to look forward to in eight hours.â
