KEEP CALM KETO ON CHALLENGE (#KCKO60) Day 1:
SNAP YOUR BEFORE PICTURE! Introduce yourself and tell us how long you have been been doing keto? What are your goals for this month? Take your measurements as well, you might not always lose weight, but you will lose cm/inches.
I think I look a lot thinner in clothes than what I really am, so I’m including before pictures both ways. I now carry most of my excess weight in what I call my ‘belly’ and that gets slightly hidden in clothes, so ... sorry about that.
If you don’t know me, I’m Valencia (Val), and I’ve been doing keto off and on for over a decade now. I first tried it in July of 2000 and I lost 81 pounds in about 16 months.
Unfortunately, I treated it as a diet and much of the last 15 years was spent OFF keto, in which time I gained back all that I’d lost and more. :(
I recommitted fully to a keto lifestyle in April of 2013 at 300 pounds after a 6 month carb-binge which resulted in me gaining 50 pounds. I’ve realized fully now that I am a carb-addict and, just like an alcoholic, I can’t just have ‘a little’ or ‘just one bite’ of refined carbs. It just doesn’t work for me. Having that one bite triggers binges of epic proportions that I seem helpless to stop, regardless of trying HARD EVERY, SINGLE DAY. :(
My highest weight was about 352 pounds in 2008. I say ‘about’ because I had no scale that went over 350, so I’m just guessing by how long it took me to get under 350 where the scale would register.
I’ve been on a plateau now for several months, both in measurements AND weight, despite staying ‘keto’ in the definitive sense. I believe I’ve been eating too many calories AND too much artificial sweetener, so this week I have cut back drastically on the artificial sweeteners, down to one pack of truvia a day from ... well ... SEVERAL. That, in turn, automatically cuts my calories because I’m not eating the ‘keto-treats’ that would go with the sweetener.
So, my goal for this challenge is to try to break this plateau by reducing calories and reducing artificial sweeteners in my diet.
