Rock ‘n’ Roll The First 25 Years - Back to the Beginnings: 1955. Fats Domino. Rhythm and blues moved out of the ghetto as several black artists made a dramatic crossover into white markets. One of the first to do so was Antoine ‘Fats’ Domino, a native of New Orleans, who made his vinyl debut, The Fat Man, as early as Dec. 1949. #fatsdomino ‘s percussive piano-playing and vocal technique were derived from the #dixielandjazz for which #neworleans was famed, though according to informed sources, difficulties in recording #thefatman led to its unusual style; it was never intended that his piano and voice should be so dominant in the ensemble sound. This record was arguably the very first million-seller in rock’n’roll, achieving that distinction some four years after release, since when, Fats has accumulated over 20 million-sellers.
