God, this has been sitting in my inbox for who knows how long. I'm sorry king. This is gonna be a long ramble-

I'd like to preface this by saying: to an extent, whatever we write will always be a little OOC. I think in general by trying to write "true to canon" or the closest thing to it, always kinda made it feel very narrow minded to me IMHO. Usually, in terms of writing I often think about the characters and how their actions/thoughts influence the way they exist in the world, etc, since it's a lot more tangible to me than bullet pointed traits etc. If that makes sense? (i.e. People have many ways to show they're caring-you're not exactly telling me what they're like when you say they're a nice person.)

Ultimately, I usually ask myself: "What does it take for [Character] to do [action]?"

Trey in particular, I feel suffers a lot of generalizations in fandom (although I guess he's somewhat dodged some serious nukes). He's literally classified as a mom-friend and a big brother in the game LOL. The game does address that he's not all that, but then I feel some people skew it way too far into the 'dark side' of Trey. (or maybe I'm over thinking it)

I think one big thing about Trey, though, is that ultimately, he's pretty self assured (in most areas). This part of him is what makes him a very reliable, older brother type that many people have come to recognize him for and an intimidating figure to boot (if you're Idia. or someone easily cowed). If there is a unknown situation he needs to navigate, he's usually discreetly observing to figure out the rules.

Because of this, he's very primed for gaslighting/manipulation. He's not saying your friend is a bad influence, but haven't they been arrested several times for petty crime? Sooner or later, that streak of criminal activity will reflect onto you whether you like it or not. Do you really want that to happen? Trey has the ability to be objective about his words, but with the benefit of coating it in a empathetic/sympathetic tone with sincerity. He's very good at reading social cues, and he knows if he's gone too far if tears start welling up in your eyelashes.
