Literally any run other than Cates’ trash rn which is a mess of terrible writing, killing off characters, retconning literally everything past writers have done, and basically destroying Eddie and Venom’s history into something gross for the Gritty Man Tears™ and as a power trip against fans who ship them.

(Cates himself is also a fairly gross person who has started ‘twitter wars’ over shipping and gets into really immature shit with ppl to the point where I’m surprised Marvel doesn’t tell him to shut the fuck up bc it’s really bad for their PR but hey whatever)

Uhh Mike Costa’s run was rlly good and he developed Eddie and Venom’s relationship into something really interesting and neat so I’d def give that a good read if you want something super personal between them. That’s also where Sleeper comes around, Eddie and Venom’s symbiote kid (I am not even making this up).

“The Hunger” 1996 series by Len Kaminski is also really good at establishing their relationship together, wherein Eddie sees Venom as something other than an ‘evil suit’ and begins to understand his symbiote, eventually figuring out what it needs to survive among other things. This series is quite romantic too.

Even the original 80′s Marvel comics, though dated with silly plots and slang and kinda weird art at times, is good and important to read for their developing relationship. It’s surprising how they went from “Venom is just an evil suit that Peter got rid of” to Eddie realizing that the symbiote has feelings and is its own person.

I was too busy laughing my ass off to be scared by anything. Those are the kinds of “horror” I can deal with. Nothing to do with the blood or gore. It’s the psychological stuff.

I was thrown a mini-party for when my book launched. They had me watch Cabin in the Woods. I don’t do horror, but when it’s done as a comedy, yeah, I was good. Sorry you had a bad experience with it. :(

i threw together a rough cut months ago when i first had the idea, then ended up making an improved version the other week because what better way to relax in study breaks then by trying to manipulate five different layers of audio files into a coherent backing track

I think it's a rather stereotypical assumption that since his family is from money, they'd be assholes to him. Same with Nix. *shrugs* I don't think there's anything I've read that would call that true, though. In fact, in Web's book, it seems as though he had at least a decent relationship with his family. Though perhaps closer to siblings than parents.

the more I think on it the more I think I’ve been using it as a convenient device to balance out his privileged upbringing and make him sympathetic without having to do much character work. and playing into the ‘poor people love their family, rich people love their money’ stereotype.

Cosplay can be daunting to start but if you break it down into steps and identify your goals of what you want to do, it becomes much easier to take that first step, but only you know what you want to get out of cosplay.

A common place to start is finding a character that you really like that has maybe a simple costume that’s easy to make, or something you can purchase easily if you don’t want to make it yourself. And you don’t have to! There’s nothing wrong with a store-bought or commissioned costume. 

One of my very first costumes was Tifa from the original release of Final Fantasy VII, which consisted of a short black skirt, white tank top, suspenders, and hiking boots. I spray painted a bicycle kneepad for her elbow guard and ta-da! Cosplay. The fun in that was that I really loved Tifa as a character and being dressed like her made me feel pretty cool. I also got a sense of accomplishment out of putting the costume together myself even though I didn’t do a lick of sewing for it. You can also put together complete costumes for, say, military characters from army surplus and thrift stores (though be careful about where you wear stuff like that; make sure of a convention’s and your country’s rules in regards to real world military regalia and insignia and be aware of the context of what you’re wearing. I wouldn’t go walking down the street in fatigues outside of the convention, for example.)

If you’re just starting out but want to sew your own, I would highly recommend taking a sewing class - they offer them at many Joann’s Fabrics stores on weekends or at community colleges; heck a relative or friend might even be able to teach you - and making something simple that way for your first go around. Thrift stores have a lot of really good base options for many characters with plain-clothes looks that you can then embellish or alter. Just make sure you gather plenty of reference images to use as guides!
