This movie includes two things i love. 1) books and 2) bill nighy though the movie is so much more than that. It's beautiful but tragic at the same time. A battle of a building and a damage of goals. The rich getting what they want while the dreamer is forced to suffer the consequences of the rich. There is something in The Bookshop that I don't think I've seen done before and it worked. Instead of having the voice over of someone reading a letter or a camera reading the letter, they instead had the writer of the letter say what they had written. Shaun Bythell is an author, bookshop owner and operator and I’ve just discovered, a song and dance man!
His first book - The Diary of a Bookseller, I’ve read and thoroughly enjoyed. His second book - Confessions of a Bookseller is on my To Read List.
I’ve discovered him and his lovely bookshop on FB and stumbled across this on Youtube! The Bookshop is in Wigtown and is the largest secondhand bookshop in Scotland. On day, who knows, I might even get there.
