Somewhere in the West
Continuing my month long series of posts with images made in New Mexico with the Great Divide as my focus or jumping off point: these three images were made while I abandoned the Divide for a time and drove east from the Chino Mine on State Highway 152. On this route I would have to conquer the Black Range.
This happens to be one of the finest sports car roads I've ever driven, but by the time I got over Emory Pass (last image) I was a bit over the curves. I found an obituary for Mary Inez Rivera, the memorial for whom we see in the first image, but it did not mention anything about this mountain road; may she rest in peace in any case.
Three images by Richard Koenig; taken April 4th 2026.
