(in response to your tags on the post about annabeth kissing percy first) don't you think her abandonment issues make it even bigger of a deal that she kissed him first? yes, percy has low self-esteem but annabeth's fear of abandonment PLUS the imminent prophecy makes her terrified to get close to people.
okay so i’m not in a place where i can write an essay like most ppl on this site seem to be able to do because frankly i don’t have the concentration span and this is already a week late lmao but here are my original tagsÂ
#ill say it again #annabeth has good self esteem (to the point of arrogance lmao) #with abandonment issues which is why she was so threatened by rachel #who represented an alternative love interest but also a life away from the dangers of being a demigod #(not legitimately but in percy’s head lmao) #while percy was able to form pretty secure attachments in childhood so doesnt have so many issues in that area #to the point that he was certain his father loved him based on his mother’s promise and a vague-ass baby memory #but my boy has low self esteem so would never b able to take the first step like that u kno #but once their relationship is established he is the more confident and certain about a lot of things #anyway this is how i write them lol #pjo
and like.....i agree with you which is why it took them five books to get to this place where she could kiss him and not when he was about to run into battle. (so i’m talking strictly about the kiss on percy’s birthday because the other one came with no commitment because she could easily explain it away as an in-the-moment-we-nearly-died thing) so the thing is, the prophecy is done and percy is like, the only person who hasn’t abandoned her - AND he was given the opportunity to. i guess that was the point of rachel because she was another romance option but was also a representation of percy’s chance (which wasn’t that legitimate) to choose a normal life. but he didn’t choose that, he chose the demigod life and simultaneously he chose annabeth. besides, you have to remember what he said to her before she kissed him which was essentially a declaration of love and further evidences that percy is a words guy and annabeth is an actions gal
