Lillith nodded in reply, staying silent. She didn’t understand why she got so shy around him, especially when most of the villagers wished she’d stop talking in general. Lillith couldn’t help but clamming up around him, yet always able to talk anyone’s ear off about him. Looking down, she noticed that Teddy was grocery shopping and that his basket looked quite empty for someone trying to live through the storm. She said in a shy voice, “Need any help?”

Seeing the redhead begin to hyperventilate Richard quickly dashed to the fridge and poured her a glass of water. “Ey’, c’mon now. Breathe. Drink and breathe,” he ordered her gently as he passed her the glass.

     The bell rang, constituting the end of another dreadful school day. Being back from winter break was always hell on Peter Parker, probably the most out of everyone-- but no one knew that, did they?  It was a good thing that the frigid Queens weather called for long sleeves, scarves, and gloves, or else his classmates would have a difficult time trying to piece together why on Earth he had so many bruises and cuts. 

         All save for Lillith Evans, who was the only one aware of his true identity. Peter was never great at keeping secrets, but he trusted Lillith more than anything, first encountering her as a helpful acquaintance and now knowing her like second nature as his best friend. 

       Stepping out of his physics class, Peter made his way toward Lillith’s locker (their usual meeting spot after school, before walking home together) but then stopped in his tracks when he noticed that Flash had been talking to her. He furrowed his brows, confused at the strange clash in status quo, waiting patiently to the side until her conversation with Flash ended. Peter, looking confused, approached Lillith somewhat carefully, curious about her new friend. 

         “Hey,” he said, still puzzled. “What the heck was that? He wasn’t trying to steal your homework, was he?”

Lillith knew that was a lie from a mile off but still made no move for her purse until she put the record away, glancing quickly at Kyle to make sure he wasn’t watching, as she slipped out a twenty and crumpled it in her hand. She’d just throw it in the shop or slip it somewhere before she left but Kyle had moved next to her to walk her out like a true gentlemen and Lillith couldn’t help thinking shit as he did so. She didn’t want any pity, she wanted to be treated like normal but she knew with her silence that would never happen ever again. The clap nearly freaked her out, if she hadn’t been watching him she would have yelled but instead the shudder on her back came naturally to put her on edge. She realised when she glanced back that she had dropped the money on the floor from freaking out slightly but he carried on being enthusiastic, so she left it behind as she tried to calm herself silently, she felt his eyes watching her and she quickly connected eyes with him to see his smile, not realising her anxiety faded a little more as she saw it. She simply nodded before pulling her gloves on a little more and walking out of the shop, managing a shy wave as she began walking home. It was nicer that he assumed she was busy rather than what she was actually doing which was going home to a warm bath and playing her new record as she laid under the covers, dissecting the whole of this conversation for tomorrow. Who was this strange man and why did he have curiosity and power over her?

Northers Lights 

“You’re not taking this seriously. Behave yourself.” 

As he shook his head, Lillith nodded hers in return, trying to catch his gaze as he looked down at the table to explain. She liked when he was all shy, it made him more human in a sense and not the strict scary publisher he puts on when reading or grading her work. Finally he grinned and explained which made Lillith immediately uncomfortable at the fact that she had put him on the spot like that.

“Sorry, I didn’t mean to.. well, pry. You shouldn’t have told me. That was rude.” She kept looking at the table to keep away from his gaze, he always could make her freeze in a moment with his eyes alone. It was always intimidating. “But since we’re talking about it, why didn’t it work? There’s nothing wrong with you, well as far as I can see you’re a little, just a little, intimidating.”
