Chapter Six: The Portkey
â âNo, the Lovegoods have been there for a week already and the Fawcetts couldnât get tickets,â â (page 73, US edition)
Luna sighting! Luna sighting! Luna sighting!!Â
I actually really enjoy this chapter, it is surprisingly full of pocket details. Little asides that arenât overwhelming important, but help reveal more about the characters overall. For example:
During the long morning hike, it takes Hermione the longest to finish climbing the hill. Hermione is canonically described as âan indoorâ girl. She didnât excel at flying in their first year, sheâs only passively interested in sports, sheâs later shown as watching snowball fights rather than participating in them, etc... There is nothing wrong with this- those types of activities arenât going to be everyoneâs cup of tea. But I mention the mention of her being last over the hill here, because I think itâs nice character continuity.Â
Other examples:Â
* Charlie failed his first Apparition Test
*Â Though obviously proud of his accomplishment Cedric made a point of telling his parents (regardless of if they remembered/care) that his win over Harry at Quidditch was the result of an accident
* Fred & George are inspired by and place value on culinary-based pranks. (the Ton-Tongue Toffees are seen in here, but later books show us Canary Creams, and Skiving Snackboxes. This is possible the result of coming from a food/family meal centered household). They spent six months on the toffees and obviously took care to hide them during Mrs. Weasleyâs first purge of their joke shop prototypes merchandise. Then the toffees were important enough for them to try and smuggle them out of the house while they were away (maybe in case Mrs. Weasley went back through their room while they were out).
