As children, we are programmed by our families, our culture, our school, our government and what we watch on TV. We're taught to fit in, study hard, obey rules and authority. My daily lives are filled with seemingly automatic actions leading to seemingly automatic results because so many of my thoughts and beliefs are unconscious, I was not aware of them – they are just things that are bred into mine through time. I felt victimized by my circumstances. I could not expect everything I want in life to just fall into my lap; however, this is how I used to live my life. I got carried along and allow the conditioned mind to direct my each and every move without stopping for even one second to ask “What do I want out of life? Is this what I want out of life? Is this the reality that I intend to experience?” These questions harness the power of profound changes in my personal life. I wanted to change and if I want to make some changes in my life, it is important to first find out what my current thoughts look like.
Some of us can control our thoughts and guide our thoughts successfully in achieving anything we want. But some of us thoughts control our daily routines and habits of good and bad intentions. Thoughts are in our mind which sometimes we call them monkey mind due to the jumping, chattering and drunk. I call them drunk monkey mind. What this means is that when people are drunk, their thoughts, speech, and movements are slowed down; they can’t think clearly; and they cannot keep their balance, walk a straight line, or stand upright without tilting to the left or right, or they even fall to the floor. Once our mind becomes drunk, we cannot control our behavior, speech, and action.
Some of us, when we have too much alcohol, at a party, don’t accept we are drunk and we decide to drive home. At that moment, we aren’t making the decision; our drunken mind is. Why do we let the drunken monkey rule our thoughts when we are supposed to be in charge of our own mind? The drunken monkey lives within us but can’t control us if we are aware of its presence. We can learn change our wild monkey into a cheerful habit. Can we banish the drunken monkey? No! He’s always been there and always will be. But we can understand him, tame him, and live in harmony with him as our companion—or even best pal ever.
All of us have thousands of thoughts each day. Most of them are concern the fears and pressures of life: What if I lose my job? Is my partner happy with our relationship? What happens if I don’t have enough money to pay the mortgage? When will I retire? There is only one solution: these monkeys need to be tamed. To do this, you must be able to observe yourself. Before you can make changes in yourself, you have to know what there is to work with. So, start the process by learning more about yourself especially your emotional awareness. Emotional awareness means being able to recognize the emotions you experience, understand the feelings associated with those emotions, and understand what you think and do as a result.
· What would you like to feel about yourself?
_If your first thoughts about yourself were negative, that’s okay!
_Spend a little time thinking about who you want to be and marinate those thoughts to help you create your purpose, vision, and goals.
You cannot fight your monkey, but you can control him, understand him, tame him, and live in harmony with your furry companion. When you understand your drunken monkey mind, the monkey feels you are listening to him and understanding him. Learning to manage your monkey mind is one of the best things you can do to transform fear. Pay attention to how your monkeys act, listen to them, and get to know them, especially the fear monkey. Awareness of your drunken monkey will make you more flexible so you won’t be so stuck in procrastination and distractions. How many times have you given control of your life to this inner manager, whether you call him your subconscious or your drunken monkey mind?
If you can control your own thoughts or monkey mind control your life because your thoughts are creating your life.
