The thing about the Train Scene in IVTV is that, because it's something created wholesale for the show, we cannot know for sure if it did or did not happen. We cannot and will never know Claudia's truth, even wth the journal, as it could have been created by Armand as part of his manipulation, we cannot trust Louis' interpretation as he was not there and only learned of it through the journal, we cannot trust Armand as the decades may very well have fogged his own memory and he might very well have come to believe his own fictions. And we for sure can not fully trust Lestats' recollection of events for the same reason we cant trust Armand. There's only one person who can tell us what happened. Memory is a monster, indeed.
