Hello esteemed followers!
As you will remember, we had a Halloween Quiz, if you got all 15 questions correct, we offered a prize: a drabble with the prompt of your choice! 6 people came back and made a request with the special password, we will NOT be taking additional drabble requests to our Owl Post â these are gifts to those few who got a perfect score from our Quiz. We hope to post the others soon!
Prompt:Â James leaving little âpresentsâ (like small things with meaning) for Lily as an Adventâs Calendar. She could find out something big if she put the pieces together for @lastflyinggraysonÂ
(*Note: I did the 12 Days of Christmas because I didnât want for it to get too long...well long-er. It also strayed a little away from Christmas but...youâll see. I hope you like it!)
Day 1
The first item was a rose.
A yellow rose, not red. Red was a sharp, contrasting bite in the muted grays of winter. On trees, in stores, among decorationsâthe color was everywhere. Yellows were few and far between.
âOh,â said Lily as she found the flower in the simple glass vase on the table, âThis is...out of season.â
âRead the card,â whispered a voice behind her.
She glanced at the table where there was, indeed, a small card positioned neatly next to the vase.
âSomeone got into Remusâ chocolate stash I see,â she noted as she took stock of the fingerprints on the paperâs corners, âCouldnât wait twelve more days until Christmas, James?â
âJust read it.â
She snorted and flipped open the card:
Evans-
A rose by any other name would be a lily. Happy day 1 of 12.
-Your True Love
âShakespeare, huh? I didnât know you were into muggle literature.â
James laughed as she spun around to kiss him on the cheek, âBlame Remus.â
Day 2
On the second day, Lily discovered where the fingerprints had come from.
âYou ate half of it!â she exclaimed, holding up the chocolate bar with clear bite marks in it, âI swear, youâre worse than Siriusââ
âSirius hates milk chocolate.â
âThatâs not the point!â she shook her head, but it was hard to play the disapproving act so close to Christmas.
âOne day, Potter,â she vowed, but she found that it was impossible to hide her smile, âOne day Iâllââ
âYouâll what?â James asked, snagging the chocolate from her hands and taking a bite from it.
âJames!â
He swallowed and beamed at her with chocolate stained teeth, âOh, I know!â an envelope pressed into her hand, âYouâll read this!â
My Sweet-
   Roses are red,
   Violets are blue,
   I ate half the chocolate,
   But I still love you.
-Blame Remus
Day 3
On day three, it was a record player.
âWhere did you find this?â she asked, smiling as she realized that it was almost identical to the one that she had had as a child.
James winked and the record began to spin, âA man has his ways.â
âSirius helped, didnât he?â
âI have no idea where you got that ridiculous idea.â
âI think the Led Zeppelin gives it away.â
Lily-
No music is as sweet as your voice when laugh and talk about the things you love (but please stop singing in the shower).
-James
Day 4
On the fourth day, it was a blanket.
Ms. Evans-
Because I never want you to be cold
-Mr. Potter
Day 5
Day five was a key:
L-
   A key to my heart
-J
âThis unlocks our front door, idiot.â
Day 6
Day six was a bit of deja vu.
âAnother rose?â Lily asked as she approached the table that morning, âRunning out of ideas are we, Potter?â
He sniffed, âYou try giving someone a different gift every day!â
She smiled, âSap. Youâre making it too complicated. Just kiss me next time or something.â
Evans-
A rose by any other name would be a...lily. This is harder than I thought it would be.
-Potter
Day 7
He gave her a kiss.
L.E.-
         I took your advice.
 -J.P.
Day 8
âA...potato?â
âYou like potatoes!â
âWell yeah,â Lily scrunched her nose as the cold, unpeeled vegetable in her hand, âbut I usually prefer them cooked.â
âI donât have time for that.â
She rolled her eyes, âYou could literally make soup with magic in like, what, six minutes?â
âSix minutes!â he snatched the potato out of her hands, âGood cooking takes time. You donât deserve this.â
Lily watched with wide eyes as her boyfriend stormed off into the kitchen, returning an hour later with skewed glasses a single bowl of soup.
âI appreciate cooking,â he told her before looking her dead in the eyes and drinking the entire bowl.
Lily-
This is dumb, you canât even cook. Do girls like raw potatoes? Peter does, but heâs...Peter. Oh well, plant a potato tree or something.
  -James
Day 9
On day nine, he gave her a Golden Snitch.
It flew away almost as soon as she opened the box (she had never possessed good reflexes, and her height didnât help), and it took them a good forty-five minutes to track it down, but it was the thought that counted.
Lily-
  Youâre a Keeper!
-Prongs
Day 10
Day ten was a journal that only opened if she tapped the top right corner three times with her wand.
My Lady-
For your thoughts and dreams. A bit of privacy in this maddening world.
-A Kindly Gentleman
Day 11
âJust the letter?â
âJust the letter.â
Evans-
I love you. There are probably thousands of ways to say it with more eloquence than that, but...Iâm not that skilled with words.
-Potter
Lily smiled as she put the letter down, âI love you too, James.â
Day 12
On the last day, she found a vase with eleven roses and a card propped against its side.
Potter-
    Marry me?
-James
For a long moment, she stared at that card. She glanced up, at the window where Christmas snow was falling, left to where the lights on the tree twinkled like stars. She looked back to the card in her hand and those four simple words.
When she turned around, she found him on one knee, a ring and rose held carefully before her.
He cocked an eyebrow as her gaze met hers, âWell? What do youââ
He didnât finish the sentence.
He didnât finish because Lilyâs lips met his and he drew her closer with a smile. Didnât finish because when she broke away, she smelled like cinnamon and the dinner she had burnt a few hours earlier. Didnât finish, because her eyes glistened like those tree lights, like the stars. Didnât finish because:
âYes,â she whispered as she broke away, âOf course.â
He smiled, âMerry Christmas, Lily.â
âMerry Christmas, James.â
I strayed a little from the prompt, but I hope you liked it!
