The fabulously named Lunerzons were a group of interstellar female pirates who resided in the “polar regions” of the Moon and took to preying on Earth cargo space ships who came within their orbit. They made a one-off appearance in the first issue of the space-themed Planet Comics. The less fabulously named Spurt Hammond, a sort of galactic police officer, bravely pursues the fleeing warrior women after a raid and ends up being captured by them. Despite an excellent premise of 1940s female power, the story’s feminist credentials are dented somewhat when the captive Spurt is able to escape from the Lunerzons and foil their plans when he becomes a source of sexual competition between the band’s leaders. Sadly, the Lunerzons never appeared in Planet Comics again, or indeed anywhere else, which is a shame.
