Everyone knows I love a cringefail villain. I find it so endearing. So I've really taken a liking to Carlin.
In the the first book, the reveal that he's actually just privileged and entitled and trying to prove himself as much as Neil is? Beautiful
And then so far in the second book, he's taken a backseat to the new villains, and one of the only extended scenes he's had is where he's drunkenly commiserating with Virgil, who's telling us, "I know he sucks so bad, but he's the only one who didn't judge me for my birthplace"
Vigil also. I'm still thinking about his brief reunion with Lilly. I want to learn so much more about him, his backstory, confirmation if he was the one protecting Lilly in Altryon.
I found Carlin and Virgil compelling individually in book 1, so I'm really tickled by their bond only becoming stronger in book 2
