I do kind gestures. Remove my appendix.
I put my ear to a flat shell andānothing.I play the lottery ironically. Get married. Have a smear test. I put my ear to the beak of a dead birdānothing. I grow wisdom teeth. Jog. I pick up a toddlerās telephone, Hello? ā No answer. I change a light bulb on my own. Organize a large party. Hire a clown. Attend a four-day stonewalling course. Have a baby. Stop eating Coco Pops. I put my ear right up to the slack and gaping bonnet of a daffodilā. Get divorced. Floss. Describe a younger personās music taste as ājust noise.ā Enjoy perusing a garden centre. Sit in a pub without drinking. I stand at the lip of a pouting valleyāspeak to me! My echo plagiarizes. I land a real love plus two real cats. I never meet the talking bird again. Or the yawning hole. The panther of purple wisps who prowls inside the air. I change nappies. Donate my eggs. Learn a profound lesson about sacrifice. Brunch. No singing floorboards. No vents leaking scentless instructions. My mission is over. The world has zipped up her second mouth. ā Sanity, by Caroline Bird Source: Poetry (February 2019)

MWW Artwork of the Day (3/6/22) Mary Cassatt (American, 1844-1926) The Fitting (1890ā91) Color drypoint and aquatint, 37.7 x 25.6 cm. National Gallery of Art, Washington DC
"The Fitting" is part of a series of ten prints that Cassatt created in 1891; together, they form an incisive document of everyday work. In this particular print, Cassatt explores the relationship between women of different social classes. The seamstress crouches over her stitching, her back to the viewer. Neither her face nor her hands are visible; she is essentially anonymous. By contrast, the mirror offers a double view of the young woman being fitted. Both her features and the nape of her neck solicit the viewer's attention. While the fabric of the young woman's dress is elaborately sewn and matched, the seamstress wears only a simple brown stripe. Both women are solemn, immersed in serious work. (from the NGA catalog)
Cassatt is one of the featured artists in this MWW Gallery/Album: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.361424193962956&type=3
Itās so nice to see you active again. I actually just went back and reread The Fitting and it made me wonder how different the story would be if the o/c met the JK weāve seen recently.
Interesting thought.Ā Iām curious how you imagine it would be different.Ā Would he be less clingy?Ā Would he be less tolerant of her inability to commit or go public?Ā Would he have not even cared because he was also less likely to commit? Would it have been an affair of co-equals?Ā Would it have been a one time fling?Ā Would the OC have been more flattered or less flattered if approached by a more mature and confident JK?
I wonder....
