Back in Part 24 The Mine, what was tragic about John’s return was how much Arthur had needed him. Could only associate his return with everything good in his life, with Faroe.

“She brought you back, John. The same way she did me, she saved us.”

Arthur thinking that playing Faroe’s song brought him back was devastating because we knew that wasn’t the case. It was Kayne that did it and John was being forced to hide all of this while Arthur continued his gleeful tirade about how he was saved.

This was one of the most bittersweet, gut twisting moments for me in the show.

But Part 55 re-contextualizes everything.

Faroe did bring John back. Hearing her pain from that older Arthur opened his eyes to the countless Faroe’s he’s enabled to be left for dead or haunted.

She brought him back from bed rock.

I really really dislike how much any conversation about autism or autism symptoms is so clearly within a euro-american cultural context. It unfortunately makes sense (its both where the research is done and who (and on whom) the research is done), but i feel like it really flattens the experience of autism when its taken out of a cultural context. Like... fun fact communication differs based on culture and a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects communication will also vary based on culture but i never see--at least online--any discusssion of this.

#I literally ranted to this about my roommmate #i just can't get it out of my head #A big part of it for me is that i am likely autistic and im also mixed latina and euro-american #and i know that i often communicate in a wayyy more indirect way then my peers who are euro-american #regardless of whether or not they are autistic #this is because the US--especially white americans--have a much more direct communication than hispanic people #so for me what feels normal and acceptable level of communication can come across as passive-agressive #and ofc this is affected by the autistic traits that i have #but i don't see discussion of things like autism in a high-context culture #because almost all the autism discussion focuses on autism in the context of white-american and european cultural spheres #THE CONTEXT #there is no escape from the context

can we talk about how Tim Walz, in his capacity as the ally who makes everyone else want to be an ally, is going to be a beacon of hope for so many people. and how he truly understands that responsibility.

he and Kamala can just keep building momentum, engaging all generations to organize, and showing the entire country what it means to respect each others’ humanity in a way that, arguably, not even Obama did successfully. it’s a truly exciting moment, even in the context of the threats to our democracy, and I can see so much hope in our future.
