Journey dev, thatgamecompany, hints at new game http://www.gamespresso.com/2016/11/journey-dev-thatgamecompany-hints-new-game/ #NewGame, #Thatgamestudio, #Thatnextgame
masterpost - what I remember right now about thatgamecompanyās next game:
before todayās formal announcement, it was already known that
1) theyāve been working on it since Journey released (2012)
2) it would be self-published and multi-platform (as opposed to Journey, Flower, and the Flow remake, ps console exclusives funded by Sony)
3) it would have a larger multiplayer element than Journey does, though this was not elaborated on
4) Vincent Diamante (Cloud and Flower) is composing the score. in fact, he posted a cut track from the projectĀ a couple years ago.
additionally,Ā a tagĀ for the projectāsĀ been on their main site for a while, but itās only labeledĀ ānew gameā. (edit:) as of 2014, theyād acquired about 7mil in funding, and thereās a page for it on the site labeledĀ āunderdevelopmentā that lists the dev team and not much else currently.
current information:
-the release is scheduled for some time in 2017. so far three promotional images have been posted, and the descriptionĀ āa game about givingā have been given.
-it may beĀ calledĀ āthatnextgameā - the official twitter has been @āing an account by this nameĀ in all the promo posts and their description. (note that the tumblr and site blog post have notĀ mentioned the supposed title in any proximity)
-the hiring page on their site describes that ā[theyāre] developing a real-time, multiplayer game server system capable of handling a massive amount of concurrent users. Providing a reliable and low latency experience for our players is [their] priority. Accounts and login, resource scaling, seamless matchmaking, live updates, are all examples of systems that [potential hiree] would be planning, executing, testing, and maintainingā, etc etc, so this gives some scope of the multiplayer.
