So I felt bad about all the angst in the last one and I also wanted to write something super soft and fluffy. So here we have my head cannon and the Doctor and Yazâs midnight snack adventures. We have tea, we have jammy dodgers and we have fluff. Let me know what you think!
It was her thoughts that kept her up that night.
Thinking about the most recent adventures she had been on with team Tardis, how the Doctor had saved her yet again from an alien who was able to make earth quakes simply by touching the planets dirt, and how much she really, really loved the Doctors enthusiasm for life. Yaz could honestly swear that she glowed with it sometimes. It was like watching the earth from a-far at nighttime. A million twinkling lights all rolled up into one extremely hyperactive time lord that Yaz had to admit, was also entirely adorable.
She made her feel things she probably shouldnât feel simply by looking her way, and whenever she did, Yaz found that she couldnât quiet control herself. The butterflies that buzzed around in her stomach, her heart beating a million times faster than was generally considered normal for a human, and the horribly awkward avoidances of meeting the Doctors gaze whenever she looked at her with that amazingly bright smile.
They where all tell-tale signs of Yazâs extremely large crush on the time-lord. Signs that she hoped the Doctor hadnât been able to pick up on yet.
When Yaz found that despite her tossing and turning, she still couldnât seam to get any sleep at all, she decided to get up to find something to do.
As she walked down the well-lit halls of the Tardis in her fluffy winter pjâs, she smiled at the sense of safety the familiar environment gave her. The shades of blue and orange and the faint sound of the spaceship brimming with life all felt like home to Yaz now. Even more so than her parent place back in Sheffield.
Yaz yawned and rubbed at her eyes as she found herself arriving at the console room of the Tardis. Thinking that her feet must have taken her their without her own cognition of it, she was about to turn back and head to the kitchen instead, when a voice made her jump and turn around.
âYaz! Your up late. Everything ok?â
The Doctor, sitting in her usual swing-seat under the Tardis floor, pulled her tinkering googles away from her eyes and looked at Yaz with concern. Yaz froze for a moment, the thought of the Doctor being concerned for her causing those feelings to stir within her once again.
âI couldnât sleep.â She managed to say as she walked closer to the time lord and watched as she put her tools away and climbed out of the space.
âNightmare? I hope it wasnât. their never fun at all. She began to ramble, scrunching her face up in a way that Yaz couldnât help but to think was cute.
âOh no Iâm fine. Just a bit of insomnia.â She replied.
The Doctor hummed.
âWell, I have just the thing than!â She announced with a finger in the air.
Yaz raised a brow in question. âOh?â She asked, and the Doctor grinned.
âWhat do you say, fancy a jammy dodger and some tea?â
Yaz couldnât help but to laugh at that, wondering how the Doctor could possibly think that a sugar rush would help her get to sleep, but she agreed anyway, not wanting to disappoint the excited alien.
âSure, sounds great.â She said.
The Doctor grinned excitedly as she gently took a hold of Yazâs hand and lead them in a half-walk-half-run through the Tardis halls until they found the kitchen.
Yaz tried to hide how much it had affected her, holding the Doctors hand, as she pulled herself up into a sitting position on the kitchen bench.
âHow many sugars Yaz?â The Doctor asked as she got to preparing their tea.
âUmm just one please.â She replied, causing the Doctor to grimace.
âOne? Are you sure thatâs enough? I have plenty to go around!â The Doctor pointed out.
Yaz laughed as she watched the Doctor dump spoonful upon spoonful of the sticky substance into her own cup.
âIâm ok thanks.â She replied, unable to hide her smile when the Doctor was being so cute.
âWhatâs with the grin?â She asked her as she handed Yaz her cup.
Yaz blinked at her as she tried to think of an excuse. But in the end she had to settle with something close to the truth because she knew that the Doctor would be able to tell if she was lying, and she didnât want to hurt her.
âJust you. youâre⌠kind of like a kid on Christmas with the little things in life. Itâs one of my favourite things about you though.â She replied, wondering if the pink that tinted the Doctors pale cheeks might have possibly been caused by her words. But the thought was quickly dismissed.
After all, Yaz was only a human, and the Doctor? She was a time lord. There wasnât a chance in the world that sheâd like Yaz.
âGotta embrace your inner child I always say. Good for the spirit.â The Doctor said as she seamed to avoid Yazâs gaze, seemingly embarrassed by what she had said. But when she offered her over the jar filled with jam-centred biscuits, and Yaz accepted one, she looked back up at her companion expectantly.
âWhat?â Yaz asked, her mouth still half full of the biscuit.
The Doctor smiled and shrugged.
âJust wanted to see if you liked them.â Yaz couldnât help it than, she laughed as she reached her hand out and ruffled the doctors hair.
âTheir great Doc, thanks.â She replied, earning a happy grin from the time lord as she pulled herself up to sit next to her companion on the bench.
âWe donât do this enough you know.â The Doctor suddenly broke the silence.
Yaz turned to her with a question in her eyes. âDo what?â She asked, suddenly feeling transfixed to the spot.
âMidnight snacks.â The Doctor empathised, causing Yaz to smile at her as she looked down bashfully, and back up into the Doctors deep pools of brown.
âThan I guess we should make a point to do it more.â She replied, as they both instinctively moved closer to each other, only for the trance to have been broken by Another one of Yazâs yawns.
The Doctor chuckled.
âStill think you wonât get to sleep?â She asked as she scratched the back of her head and avoided Yazâs gaze.
Yaz felt warmth run up to her cheeks as she tried not to let her thoughts run rabid about what that moment between them just now was.
âHmm probably not.â She said in-between another yawn and stretch.
âI have an idea!â The Doctor suddenly exclaimed.
And Yaz looked at her in question.
âI could tell you a story. Those always help me to get to sleep.â
Yaz tried not to think about how nice it would be to lie on the Doctors chest as she fell asleep to the sound of her voice- she gave a nervous smile and shrugged.
The Doctor took that as a sign to continue.
âIâve got just the one.â She said, and as Yaz sipped on the rest of her tea, she watched entranced as she Doctor began to recite and wildly act out the tale.
It was about spaceships and stars, and planets full of wonderful things. The Doctor lit up with that glow of hers again as she told it, a glow that seamed to fill the whole room with its light.
It wasnât long before Yaz had begun to feel more tired than she had before, and not even realising it, she had at some point leant her head on the Doctors shoulder.
When the Doctor had realised that her companion was starting to doze off, she took hold of her empty cup and put it on the bench as quietly as she could.
Gently, she scooped Yaz up and into her arms and began to carry her back to her room, smiling to herself at how cute she looked when she slept and hoping that they might make their midnight snacks a nightly tradition.

I am not and will never be over that bed scene. Pure thasmin fluff here folks.
The Doctor and Yasmin landed on the bed inside the TARDIS with a soft thud.
Yaz closed her eyes, feeling her heartbeat against her ribcage at a rate she thought unimaginable. She counted her breaths, trying to slow her breathing down. She slowly opened her eyes, seeing the Doctor lying beside her. She breathed a sigh of relief, her heart rate instantly slowing at seeing her friend by her side. She gave her friend an incredulous look, a sly grin creeping in.
The Doctor glanced over at her and her soft smile in return seemed to lighten up the room.
She closed her eyes once again, only for a brief second. She wanted to drink in this feeling while it lasted. She snuck another look at the blonde beside her and felt her chest expand. The situation wasnât lost on her. The Doctor and her lying in bed, out of breath and filled with a little too much adrenaline. Like something out of her dreams.
Although this is much better than any dream. She drank in the rare sight of having her friend this close. Her blond hair fanning over the pillow, the crinkle to her lips where she formed a smile. The earing glinting in her ear. Her eyelashes framing her beautiful hazel eyes. STOP
The ecstasy flowing through her really shouldnât have been there. They hadnât even done anything; the Doctor wouldnât ever think of her like that anyway. She definitely shouldnât be thinking about the handcuffs around the Doctors hands. Shouldnât be thinking about how happy she was just lying next to her. Imagining what those handcuffs could be used for. Yaz, stop it!
She wanted to reach out and touch her desperately. She wanted to-
âOh what a relief.â The handcuffs unlocked with a click and Yaz bit the side of her cheek to keep from laughing. Although she was sure a cheeky grin has snuck its way through. She glanced over at her companion once again, smiling softly as the Doctor looked back. She wanted this moment engrained in her memory. Somewhere she could keep forever.
The Doctor spring up, causing Yaz to inwardly groan at the ruined moment.
No.
With a lightening fast reflex, she didnât know she had; she snatched the Doctorâs hand before she stood, causing the alien to come crashing back down into the bed. It may not have been elegant but to Yaz it was beautiful.
âOi.â The Doctor startled, turning onto her side to look at her companion.
âCan you stay, can we stay here. Just for a moment? Please.â Yaz ducked her head, knowing how stupid she sounded. Knowing how the Doctor would think she was just another silly human.
âWe canât let them get away with doing that to usâ The Doctor protested, searching her friends face.
âIâŚI just need a minute to⌠recover.â Yaz faltered, eyes focused on their hands, still joined.
The Doctorâs face scrunched up. âYouâve always been fine before. Are you feeling alright?â
Yaz tore her eyes away from their hands, landing instead on the ceiling. Warmth spread through her, feeling the Doctorsâ fingers close around hers.
âYaz?â And now the Doctor was leaning over her, all blond hair and beautiful and ohmylord she is so gorgeous. This is how I die. Death by beauty.
She couldnât breathe. It kept getting caught in her throat as the Doctor inched closer to her face. âYaz?â
âIâŚ. Iâm okay.â She stuttered, entranced at the alien leaning over her. I just want to reach my hand up and touch her face. Run my hand through her hair. OhGod, I really want to kiss her. Christ, sheâs so close. How did I survive this long? Donât fuck this up Khan. Then thereâll be no more traveling the universe-
âYaz, Iâm worried. Are you hurt?â
Nah, just my heart Doc.
âIâm okay.â She squeaked out, wanting to literally disappear as she heard her voice.
âI justâŚlike this.â She blurted, heart racing as she quickly avoided the timelordâs gaze.
âOh.â The Doctor softly looked at their joined hands.
âJustâŚforget I said that.â Yaz whispered, wishing desperately the Doctor would move her face away. Before Yas did something she knew she shouldnât.
âAhâŚâ The Doctor retreated from Yazâs line of sight and the human breathed a sigh of relief while simultaneously feeling disappointment in every part of her being.
âWe donât have to.â The Doctor said softly as she nestled her body next to Yasminâs.
Yasminâs body went completely still before her reflexes kicked in and she took a deep gulp of air.. The Doctor is spooning me. And ohmygod its as wonderful as I imagined.
She closed her eyes again, feeling every point of contact her body had with the timelords. Every inch of her being humming, gently, softly. She felt the Doctorâs breath against her neck, and she sank into the mattress as the Doctor casually slung an arm around her. Breath. Breathe. Ohmygod she smells exactly like I imagined and this is beyond perfect and I love her so much.
And while Yasminâs mind raced, the Doctor had only one simple thought:
That somehow, the most important thing in the universe at the moment was lying nestled with Yasmin Khan in that bed.
Yaz Works Out and The Doctor is a Gay Mess (Thasmin)
She discovered the room when she was looking for the swimming pool that Ryan and Graham apparently kept falling into.
It was in disuse, an ancient looking stationary bicycle in the corner actively accumulating dust. Yaz had never seen dust anywhere else in the TARDIS, and when the thought crossed her mind, the TARDIS seemed to hum with laughter.
She would have hesitated about using the room -- which, aside from the bike in the corner, with the echoes of someone called Mel hovering around it, was in pristine condition -- except that the Doctor had said that anything the TARDIS saw fit to show her was hers to explore, to use.
So far, sheâd discovered wardrobes that made department stores cower in comparison, a library that made Belleâs in Beauty and the Beast look like a mere bookshelf, and a choice of bedrooms ranging from eighteenth century canopy beds to a stainless steel looking parody of Earth industrial aesthetic.
Now, discovering a fitness center near the heart of the TARDIS -- just when sheâd been thinking that sheâd like nothing more than to work off some stress (hence searching for the pool Ryan and Graham kept running into) -- felt like an open invitation from the TARDIS.
She opened one of the storage closets to find, to her relief, leggings, trainers, and a tank that fit her perfectly -- like the TARDIS knew that if she left the room to find the wardrobe or her bedroom for clothes, she would never find this place again.
An hour later, she was covered in a thin sheen of sweat, her hands wrapped and expertly pounding away at the heavy bag.
The TARDIS chimed off three minute rounds with thirty second rests, and Yaz revelled in the exhaustion.
She didnât notice that anyone was standing in the doorway, slack-jawed, until she finished a round with an spinning hook kick that sent her into something like a superhero landing.
âYasmin Khan,â was the only thing the Doctor managed to eek out, and Yaz trembled even as she grabbed at her knees and panted.
The Doctor, who abhorred violence (except when itâs on her terms), who flinched whenever she seemed to remember that Yazâs job involved carrying a taser, who made the more-than-occasional -- and, according to Yaz, completely accurate (which is exactly why she joined the force to begin with, to change things) -- side comment about the whole policing institution of Earth being unevolved⌠watching her punch and kick with ruthless efficiency, her training combined with the years of mixed martial arts after growing up getting beaten up for her name, her skin tone, her everything.
The Doctor, standing in the doorway, watching the way Yaz copes -- the coping mechanism she keeps quiet, underneath her kindness to children and sharp wit and even sharper empathy with her friendsâŚ
Surely, the Doctor couldnât possibly like what she saw.
Surely, the Doctor couldnât respect her anymore, like her anymore, have⌠whatever feelings Yaz thought she might have, sometimes, when she thought Yaz wasnât watching the trajectory of her eyes to Yazâs lipsâŚ
Surely, the Doctor would hate recognizing a version of her own demons in the soul of one of her companions, her fam, who were supposed to keep her in check, keep her light, keep her from committing genocide in the name of peace.
Her sweat had been making her warm just moments before, but under the Doctorâs gaze, she shivered.
âDoctor,â she panted, tentatively, nervously. Hoping that her voice didnât sound different, when she was fresh off of tearing into a heavy bag like it was that white guy whoâd threatened her sister last year, like it was her superior officers who kept her on traffic patrol because they didnât think she deserved or was capable of more, like it was the resigned disappointment in her motherâs voice when sheâd told her she was bi all those years ago.
âYou found the rec center,â the Doctor said, still standing in the doorway like she was unsure if she was welcome to come in.
Like a puppy hoping to be invited, but prepared to be rejected.
Yazâs heart shuddered.
âI was looking for that pool Ryan and Graham keep running into.â
âLiterally.â
They shared a chuckle that ended with the Doctorâs eyes sweeping up and down Yazâs body, subtle, quick.
Yaz was suddenly very aware of the way sheâd sweated through her tank top, the way the definition in her arms popped; the curves made clear by the fit of these leggings.
âYou know,â the Doctor ventured, seemingly emboldened by their shared laughter, âthat bikeâs mine. Well, used to be. I was a bit of an older man, once -- well, a lot of times, really -- and one of my friends, Mel, her name was, she would give me this disgusting juice to drink, make me ride that bike. Was very into her juices and bike rides, Mel was.â
A familiar look of nostalgia crossed the Doctorâs face as she meandered over toward the old bike in the corner, and Yaz watched her lazily as she caught her breath, her heart starting to calm in more than one way.
Maybe the Doctor didnât hate her for the barely controlled rage sheâd seen. Maybe she wouldnât be disgusted by the expert way sheâd learned to channel that rage into the potential for easy violence.
âIs it alright? That Iâm using this room? I donât want to intrude on old memories or -- â
âNo, no, Iâm glad itâs being put to good use. Running, thatâs what this fam is always doing. Love the running. Or, the kickboxing, maybe.â
Another subtle eye sweep.
Yazâs knees weakened, and it had nothing to do with her workout.
âI thought you might not approve,â she ventured, her voice soft and scared.
The Doctor cocked her head and scrunched up her nose, suddenly laser-focusing her attention on Yaz, and only Yaz.
A lesser woman would have cowered.
Yaz just gulped and fought to keep the Doctorâs gaze.
âYou donât need my approval for anything, Yasmin Khan. Except perhaps the food on alien planets, because you really never know with some of those smoothies. Not the kinds of smoothies youâd expect on Earth, let me tell you.â
âDoctor, youâre drifting.â
They both smiled.
âPoint is, you donât need my approval. Not for this, not for anything. But even if you did⌠you have it. Just because I donât keep fit doesnât mean you canât.â
âOh, you keep fit enough,â Yaz said before she had the chance to think about it.
The Doctor gulped, this time. Not quite as hard as she did when Yaz told her she wasnât going to leave her side, but hard enough.
âDo I? You think so?â The Doctor flared out her arms, her coat flapping slightly like a cape, and Yaz couldnât help but laugh.
âDefinitely, Doctor. But really, though. Itâs not⌠Iâm not⌠itâs violent, really, isnât it? Rule one is no weapons, but here you are, saying itâs okay that my bodyâs crafted like a weapon itself -- â
âAll our bodies are weapons, Yaz. Our minds, our thoughts. All of it can be weaponized. But you⌠you use it to save the world, Yasmin Khan. On and off the TARDIS.â
âYeah?â
A beat of silence and eye contact and weak knees from both women.
âYes.â
Yaz smiled, suddenly, and grabbed at a towel the TARDIS had stashed for her.
âCome on, then,â she wiped her face then tossed it over her shoulders. She thought she saw the Doctor gulp again, but it might just be her ego.
It was probably definitely her ego.
Right?
âLetâs go find the boys and see if we can weaponize our minds to destroy them at Clue.â
âThe professor in the library with the wrench!â The Doctor proclaimed quite seriously. âItâs happened to me before.â
Yaz laughed and tossed a casual arm over the Doctorâs shoulders.
âTell me the story?â she asked as they set off through the TARDIS together, the old girl humming in excited approval.
âWell. Iâve told you about Donna. My friend, Donna Noble. But I havenât told you about Agatha Christie yet, have I?â
Yasmin sat cross legged on the floor of the tardis. Her hands rested in her lap.
The Doctor sat behind her, belly pressed to Yazâs back and legs folding around her friends.
The Doctor softly let her fingers trail through her friends hair, smiling as her companion grinned up at her.
âBeen awhile since Iâve braided hair.â The Doctor admitted with a gentle smile, fingers still tangled in Yazâs long locks.
âMm.â Yaz replied softly, leaning back against her friend as the time lordâs free hand and her own intertwined. âWell I like braids.â She responded lazily. âSo you better find the time to learn.â
The Doctor let her slender fingers ghost along the nape of Yasminâs neck. âIâll practice for days if this is what it would be like.â She murmured, squeezing the humans hand.
Yasmin laughed softly, turning her head to study the time lord.
âWhat?â The Doctor quipped with a grin. âSure doesnât seem like you have any objections so far.â She tenderly grazed her lips along the back of Yazâs neck, causing her to inhale softly.
âStop.â Yasmin yelped as she pawed the Doctor away.
The alien stilled immediately, panic rising in her chest.
âStop that or weâll just be making out for the next hour.â Yasmin chastised, quickly turning and giving her partner a brief kiss on the lips.
The Doctor pulled her closer and chuckled.
Yasmin lay her head on her friends chest as the time lord wrapped her in an embrace. She could have stayed there like that for hours, years even. Wrapped tight in a familiar embrace as she drank in the presence of her friend. Yaz closed her eyes for a brief second. âBraids.â She reminded softly, once again turning her back to her friend.
The Doctor ran her fingers through her friends hair again slowly.
âBraids.â Yaz chimed in again with a small laugh.
The Doctor sighed in annoyance. âI dunno, I quite like this right now.â
âYeah...I do to.â
The Tardis made a familiar whooshing noise, startling the reverie.
âBraids.â Yaz said again, quicker this time. âAs much as I like...love this,â She blushed at the words, only wishing she could see the other face, âwe have a planet to save. A whole universe to save. And I want to be the most bad ass woman with braids in my hair the cyber men have ever seen.â
The Doctor chuckled but nonetheless relented. She slowly wove one strand over the other until she had worked all of Yazâs hair into the hairstyle. She admired her handiwork before planing a delicate kiss on the top of her head.
Yasmin scrambled up in glee and ran into the adjourning room to find a mirror.
The Doctor followed her aimlessly, hands in pockets as she only imagined what awaited them outside the Tardis doors.
âNice look there love.â Graham called as Yasmin proudly showed off her hair.
âThe Doctor did it.â She boasted.
âWell Doc, if Iâm ever daft enough to grow out my hair Iâll let you know.â
Ryan and Yaz snickered.
The Doctor paused, finally lifting her eyes to meet her friends. âCan I speak to you for a moment?â She asked quietly
Yasmin followed her friend back into the adjacent room, away from prying eyes and questioning minds.
âDoctor, whats wrong?â Yaz asked, absentmindedly playing with one of her braids.
âJust...â The Doctor took a small breath. âBe careful out there.â She gathered Yasminâs hands into her own. âPlease...just listen to me. Iâll protect you..I promise.â
Yasmin gave her friend a concerned look. âDoctor-â
The Doctor took a long breath before speaking again. âYaz, I know the look in your eyes. Iâve felt it many times. Itâs recklessness, itâs invincibility. But sometimes...Iâve lost......I love you.â She finished simply, hoping her eyes could convey what her words could not.
Yasmin smiled down at her feet. âI love you too.â She whispered, pulling the time lord in for an embrace. Weâll be okay. Besides, I have you and these bad ass braids. What else could a girl need?â She planted a gentle kiss on the aliens temple. âWeâll be alright. Weâll always be alright.â
âDo you think we could decorate the Tardis for Christmas?â
Her trademark scrunch appeared on the Time Lordâs face. âWell, I really donât think thereâs much sense in thatâ- She stopped talking suddenly as she spotted the hopeful look on her companionâs face. âOh, fine, Iâm sure it couldnât hurt. I must have some decorations, or something, stored away.â
Yaz beamed. âThank you Doctor. Iâll go find Ryan and Graham!â
Soon the four friends stood in the console room, struggling to put together a fake Christmas tree.
âDoctor,â Yaz sighed in exasperation as the branches got tangled in the reindeer antlers she wore on her head.
âThese things arenât exactly practical.â The Doctor argued as she attempted to free her head from the branches.
âNo, but they are quite festive.â Yaz said, shaking her head to make her own antlers jingle.
âHow are you two getting along with those lights?â The Doctor called to Ryan and Graham, each with equally festive Santa hats atop their heads.
âJust peachy Doc. I mean, these are an utter mess.â Graham held up the tangled lights.
The Doctor smiled apologetically. âYeah, sorry about that Graham. Wasnât always the best for tidiness.â
After the tree had finally been assembled and Yaz nodded her approval, she began stringing tinsel around the center console.
âBit overboard, donât you think Yaz?â
âNo such thing! Come on, get in the Christmas spirit Doctor.â
âNever really been much for Christmas. I did meet Santa once though.â-
Yaz swatted her companionâs antlers playfully. âCome on Doctor, you are going to enjoy this Christmas whether you want to or not.â
The Doctor shrugged as she began helping her friend with the tinsel. âSuppose youâll be going back home for Christmas.â
âOf course.â Yaz turned around, the tinsel forgotten. âWait, do you have anyone to spend Christmas with Doctor?â
The Doctor scuffed her boot along the floor of the Tardis. âNah, but Iâll be fine.â
âNo way! You can come to my house, I know my family wonât mind.â
âYaz, donât be sillyâ-
âNo one should be alone on Christmas.â
Hey Doc, we finally got these lights untangled. Mind giving us a hand?â Graham called.
Soon the lights and ornaments were on the tree and the crew admired their hard work.
Yaz handed the tree topper to the alien. âYou do the honors.â
The Doctor placed the star atop the tree and the whole room seemed to glow.
âLooks quite nice, donât ya think?â Yaz looked over at the Doctor.â
âWonderful Yaz.â She smiled back. âYou two too,â She nodded to the boys. âLooks proper festive.â
âCareful Yaz!â The Doctor spied her friend wobblingly on a ladder and steadied it quickly.
âOhâŚDoctor.â Yazâs eyes widened and flickered upwards.
The Doctor followed her gaze, spying a plant hung above them.
âAhâŚthank you Doctor.â She stammered, praying Ryan and Graham wouldnât see the current situation.
âWhatâs that?â The Doctor asked curiously, pointing at the plant above them. âLooks awfully familiar.â
Yaz spotted movement in her peripheral vision and turned in time to see Ryan smack Graham on the arm multiple times in surprise before they ducked out of view. Two heads peered around the corner and Yaz glared.
âYaz?â The Doctor tried to see what her friend was staring at but Yaz turned back to her quickly.
âAhâŚmistletoe.â She admitted. Â
âOh, well, it looks nice.â The Doctor turned to go but stopped and turned back to Yasmin. âIsnât there a funny human custom with mistletoe?â
âYou kiss!â Ryan provided in excitement, causing both women to turn and glare.
âYeah, I think this is when we leave and give them some privacy Ryan.â Graham supplied, taking him by the arm.
â5 pounds says Yaz makes the first move.â
âRyan!â
Then they were gone.
The Doctor watched the human with wide eyes.
Yaz blushed, looking at her feet. âIâm sorry Doctor, it really isnât that big of a deal. You donât have toâ-
âWell, canât be breaking your human traditions, now can we?â The Doctor smiled. âBesides, Iâd never hear the end of it from those two.â
âWeâll never hear the end of it from them either way.â Yaz laughed as the Doctor smiled softly.
âNow letâs get you down from that ladder first Yaz.â
Yaz smiled bashfully, to be truthful she had forgotten all about the ladder. The Doctorâs hands were around her waist in an instant, causing Yazâs heart to race. She instinctively wrapped her arms around the other womanâs neck. She got an intense whiff of her friend and smiled. Sunshine and adventure, that was what the Doctor smelled like, and it was absolutely amazing.
It was over all too soon, Yazâs feet now planted firmly on the ground. Yaz opened her eyes, not realising she had closed them and found the alien studying her.
âWell,â The Doctor started, nervously shoving her hands into her pockets.
Yazâs hands were sweaty and she wiped them on her pants before taking a step forward.
âIâm quite nervous.â The Doctor admitted as Yaz drew closer. She stopped when her face was inches within of the alienâs.
âNo need.â Yaz said softly, prying a hand out of her pocket and taking it in her own.
The Doctor smiled, almost surprised by the contact and inched her face towards the youngers.
Crack.
Their noses clashed together, causing both to reel back.
âOuch.â Yaz blinked over at the other woman.
âSo sorry Yaz!â-
Yaz only laughed, pulling the Time Lord close once again. She stood on her tiptoes then, tenderly meeting the alienâs lips with her own, careful to avoid another nose bump.
It was soft, chaste, barely a brush really.
A smile tugged at the corner of the Doctorâs lips. âOh, come on Yaz, that wasnât much of a kiss.â She teased boldly, a blush forming on her cheeks.
Yaz blushed herself. âShall we fix that then?â
âBrilliant idea as usual Yaz.â
The Doctorâs lips met the humans in a gentle way, hands resting on her shoulders.
There were no fireworks, no sudden jolt of electricity or ground-breaking revelation. Instead there was a gentle warmth spreading over both of them, quiet, content. Just enough to know that it was right.
âMerry Christmas Yaz.â The Doctor murmured, pulling away long enough to study her companion.
Yaz smiled back softly. âYes, Merry Christmas Doctor.â

Yaz goes on a date and the Doctor getâs jealous. Hijinks ensue
âWhat do you mean youâve got a date?â The Doctor leaned against the center console of the Tardis, studying her friend.
Yaz sighed in exasperation. âIâve got a date, with a boy back home. Canât I have a normal life?â
The Doctor shrugged her shoulders, trying to hide her hurt. âDonât know why you want to go on a date at a boring restaurant.â She slowly lifted her eyes, careful to be not too hopeful. âWhen I could take you anywhere in the universe.â
Yaz turned her back to the Doctor, her heart aching. So I can get over you. So I can feel normal for once. I canât be in love with an alien. âJust...drop me off, would you Doctor.â Yaz was embarrassed of the tremor in her voice. âI wonât be more than a couple of hours. Then we can go on another adventure, promise.â She couldnât meet the Doctorâs eyes, hating seeing her friend looking so hurt.
The Doctor didnât respond but strode around the Tardis, pushing buttons and pulling levers without any of her usual energy or excitement.
âWhereâs Yaz?â Ryan inquired, finding only the Doctor inhabiting the control room.
âOh, sheâs a bit too busy for us today Ryan.â The Doctor stated nonchalantly.
âToo busy? No way! Sheâs alright, isnât she?â
âSheâs fine, Ryan.â The Doctor interrupted, hoping to drop the subject. âSo where to today fam?â Saying it didnât feel right without Yaz present.
âNo, wait, why is Yaz too busy? This is the chance of a lifetime right here! You donât miss out on the Tardisâ-
âSheâs on a date.â The Doctor stated bluntly, trying and failing to keep the venom out of her voice.
âA date?â Ryan questioned as Graham snickered.
âYaz has got a date?â
âYeah, so sheâs too busy for us today.â The Doctor quipped, jealousy getting the better of her.
Graham raised his eyebrows, sensing the alienâs feelings. âYou sound a bit jealous there, Doc.â
The Doctor froze, spinning around to face Graham with hands on hips. âWhat? No, Iâm not.â
âAh, Iâd say you are.â Graham stated, not fazed by the Doctorâs sudden change in attitude.
âAm not!â
âAre too.â
âAm not!â
âOkay guys,â Ryan interrupted. âYou sound like bloody children. Letâs have an adventure thatâll make Yaz totally jealous.â
The Doctor turned to the controls, feeling saddened. âOff we go then.â
âHey Doc, where are you going?â Graham asked as the Timelord split off from her friends. They were back home, after quite the exciting day spent on the planet Thasao.
âJust going to nip over and check on Yaz.â She called back innocently.
Graham came to a halt, Ryan doing the same behind him. âWhat? You canât do that Doc.â
âJust going to check on my friend.â The Doctor insisted.
âYour going to spy on her!â Ryan accused loudly, giddy with realization. âYouâre jealous and you are going to spy on her date!â
âRyan,â Graham chided. âActually, that makes a lot of sense. Doc, you canât do that! Itâs not fair to Yaz.â
âIâm just checking on her.â The Doctor protested. âIsnât that what friends do? Iâm just looking out for her safety really.â She quickly walked away, hoping the other two had enough sense not to join her.
Footsteps echoed behind her and the Doctor whipped around in frustration. âOkay you two, shoo! Off with you lot!â
âNo way!â Ryan protested. âWe want to spy on Yaz too.â
âIâm not spying on herâ The Doctor nearly shouted. âNow leave. Iâll see you two later, if I even let you back in the Tardis.â
âYou wouldnâtâ- Graham started but quickly quieted as the alien shot him a glare.
âOkay, well, see ya later Doc.â Graham supplied, watching as the Timelord turned on her hell and strode away.
The Doctor peered inside the window of the restaurant, sighing in relief as she spotted Yasminâs familiar face. Well, at least you are safe. Her gaze settled on Yazâs partner and she gasped. It wasnât a boy, but a girl! Not that sexual orientation particularly mattered to the Timelord. She was more hurt that Yaz thought it necessary to lie to her. âWhat does she have that I donât?â The Doctor wondered aloud as she watched the two of them laugh. Yaz was beautiful when she laughed. Lighted up the room right proper. Quite contagious too. The Doctorâs face fell as she registered the fact that Yaz was laughing with someone else. Someone else who wasnât her. It stung quite a bit.
She ducked as another patron looked her way. But she couldnât leave just yet. A brilliant plan came to her, now she only needed the courage to pull it off.
The Doctor adjusted her wig one last time before stepping out of the restroom. She spotted Yaz and her âfriendâ and made her way towards them, growing quite anxious as the time passed.
âLadies, how is the meal?â The Doctor asked smoothly as she approached the table.
âExcellent. Oh, what happened to our waiter?â
âWent home sick Iâm afraid. Bit of a cold going around you know.â
âOh, well I hope he feels better soon.â
Oh Yaz, always thinking of other people. âYes, I hope so too. Now is there anything I can get you ladies?â
âNo, I think weâre fine thanks.â Yaz said, looking over at her companion.
âFine thank you.â She stated loudly.
The Doctor disliked her immediately. Too loud, too confident. And much too obnoxious. Something just rubbed her the wrong way. Could be that sheâs sitting at that table with Yaz instead of you. âOh, shut up.â She muttered, wanting to quiet the thoughts in her mind.
âSorry?â
The Doctor blushed deeply. âNothing. Enjoy your meal!â She scuttled away, only to watch the pair from afar.
They seemed to have a pleasant enough conversation as they ate. No more laughing, thankfully.
The Doctor fidgeted with the apron she worse. She looked longingly over at Yaz until another worker disturbed her.
âHey, dreamland!â The Doctor looked up only to have 3 plates of foo shoved at her. âTable 8.â
The Doctor looked down in panic. I didnât want to actually serve food! I just wanted to make sure Yaz was alright! Sheâd seen this done in movies though, how hard could it be? She placed one plate along her arm and picked up the remaining one in each hand. Slow and steady. She coaxed herself forward, taking careful steps as she searched for table 8.
She caught a glimpse of the girl softly moving Yazâs hair out of her face and stumbled. The plates crashed to the floor, broken glass and food flying to the ground. The Doctor froze, deeply embarrassed for the second time that night. However, it wouldnât be the last.
Everyone turned to stare at her and she fled to the restrooms before she made a fool of herself again.
âLeave.â She told herself as she attempted to clean herself up. Leave and forget this ever happened. It was a mistake. Yaz is allowed to do what she wantsâŚto see who she wantsâŚ. The Doctor took a few slow, deep breaths and studied herself in the mirror. It was pathetic really, but the jealousy building inside her fueled her on.
After she had composed herself she peered her head out of the doorway. Everything appeared normal. Brilliant.
She gave a quick glance to Yaz and noticed they had finished their main course. Perfect! She grabbed a couple of desert menus and made her way over. âDesert, ladies?â She asked, careful to disguise her voice.
Yaz laughed. âYeah, why not?â She looked over at her friend.
âWell, Iâm not sureâ-
âOh, come on, have some desert. You only live once.â
The Doctor handed the customers their menus, taking special care to brush fingers as she passed Yaz hers. âIâll give you a few minutes.â
The Doctor was tingling from the feeling of their hands brushing. She smiled to herself, reveling in the feeling she had just experienced. The Doctor returned to collect their orders, careful to keep her hands to herself.
She retreated again and watched the couple in the candlelight. She swallowed as she felt emotions welling up inside her. Why canât I have Yaz like this? Why doesnât this stupid girl realize she is sitting with one of the most amazing creatures in the universe? She would never appreciate Yaz as much as I do. Could never show her the things I could. Could never love her-
âYour order has been there for 5 minutes honey, are you okay?â One of the other waitresses asked, breaking the Doctor from her thoughts.
âYes, sorry. Just been in a bit of a daze today.â She laughed to play it off and gathered the pairs order. She approached the table and was fuming as she noticed the girls clutching hands. She dumped their food down, sending the other girl a vicious glare. âEnjoy.â She stated bluntly, spinning on her heel and stalking off.
Once she had regained her cool she realized she had forgotten their drinks. She sighed inwardly as she collected them, regretting every decision that brought her here. Watching Yaz find someone else was causing havoc on her poor hearts. As she drew closer she noticed how close their faces appeared and gripped the wineglasses so hard she thought they would shatter. Jealousy and anger burned inside her as she stalked towards the table. She was fuming as she watched them kiss. Nobody kisses Yaz...Except me! Her mind was in an uproar. She canât kiss Yaz! She isnât near good enough for Yaz! How dare she? Yaz is mine!! Without thinking the Doctor had reached the table and stopped, eyes about to burn though the other girl. A torrent of thoughts whirling through her mind seemed to block any sensible thoughts. She dumped the glass of wine onto the girl. Specifically, into her lap, but the Doctor hadnât been aiming anywhere in particular. Â Get away from my Yasmin. She watched it all happen in slow motion, horrid thoughts consuming her.
The girl cried out and the Doctor startled, realizing what she had done. A sinking feeling immediately settled in her gut, something she knew well. Regret.
âWhat the hell?â The girl cried.
Yaz looked up, eyes wide and the Doctor couldnât help but notice once again how beautiful she was. Brown eyes locked onto hazel and a look of recognition passed over Yazâs face.
âDoctor?â Barely a whisper.
âSo sorry!â The Doctor cried, attempting to dry off the other girl with a napkin.
âI donât need your help.â The girl said curtly as she snatched the napkin from the Timelord. She stormed off into the ladiesâ room, a cloud of perfume following her.
âDoctor?â Yaz repeated.
The Doctor held her breath, afraid to look at her friend. She turned to flee but Yaz grasped her wrist.
âDoctor?â Louder and much more intense.
The Doctor lifted her eyes from the floor and met her friendâs.
Yazâs eyes widened then hardened. âIt is you! WhatâŚwhat are you doing here? Why are you dressed as out waitress? And why did you spill a drink all over my date?â
The Doctor looked around, knowing they were causing a scene as Yazâs voice rose with each word she spoke.
âDoctor,â Yazâs voice was venomous and the grip on her wrist felt vice like. âWhat do you think you are doing butting into my personal life? And make a fool of me!â Yaz finally noticed the other patrons watching and lowered her voice, her eyes watering with tears.
âYazâŚ. Iâm so sorry.â The Doctor supplied, pleading with her friend. âI didnât mean to make you upset or ruin anything!â
âHow could you? I just wanted this one thing!â Yaz let go of her wrist suddenly and ripped the wig off the alienâs head. âHow could you?â She cried before turning away.
âYaz, I truly am sorry.â The Doctor regretted her actions deeply and found the jealousy to justify them disappearing quickly.
âJustâŚdonât.â Yaz sighed and stood up to leave.
The Doctor watched her go before following at a safe distance. âYaz!â She called once they were outside.
âWhat do you want Doctor? What more could you possibly want? You ruined my night, I was trying to have a nice time!â
âYasmin,â The Doctor reached her and tentatively placed a hand on her arm. âYaz, please, Iâm sorry.â
Yaz stared at her, her normally beautiful face streaked with tears. The Doctor still thought her beautiful though. A beautiful disaster.
Yaz turned to go and the Doctor grabbed her other wrist, holding the human captive.
âLet me go, Doctor!â
âYasmin Khan, Iâm not letting go until youâll agree to listen to me without running away.â
Yaz studied her warily.
âYaz, Iâm sorry.â She hurried on before her friend could cut her off. âI just wanted to check on you, I promise. Then⌠I saw you with that other girl andâŚ.and I wondered what she had that I didnât.â The Doctor lowered her head, unable to meet her friendâs gaze.  âI wasâŚjealous, Yaz. I was jealous that another girl could have you when I couldnât. It didnât feel fair. I was angry, outraged. Mostly, I was incredibly, stupidly, jealous.â
The silence seemed to stretch on for hours.
The Doctor finally raised her eyes only to find understanding in Yazâs eyes. She laughed softly, getting louder and louder with each chuckle.
The Doctor blinked, stunned by her human friendâs response. She opened her mouth but seemed speechless.
Yaz continued laughing, pulling the Doctor closer to her.
The Doctor blushed, nervously fidgeting at their proximity. Yaz smelled like vanilla and cinnamon. She looked absolutely breathtaking and the Doctor loved it all.
âYou...you were jealous?â Yaz whispered between giggles. âYou of all people were jealous?â
âOkay, no need to rub it in.â The Doctor muttered.
Yaz shivered against her and the Doctor noticed that she had forgotten her coat inside the restaurant. âI can go get your coat.â She offered softly.
âNo, Iâm fine.â Yaz replied, bracing herself for an argument.
âNo, youâre not. You must be absolutely freezing. Here,â The Doctor stripped off her jacket and draped it around her friendâs body.
Yaz grinned shyly and the Doctorâs hearts soared. She really is beautiful, absolutely precious.
âCome on then, letâs get you home Yaz.â
Yaz grabbed onto the Doctorâs hand, startling the Timelord.
She gasped before looking down at their connected hands. She tempted fate, interlocking their fingers and watching Yaz for a reaction.
She squeezed her hand and shyly grinned. âYou know Doctor, you had nothing to be jealous about.â She stated softly, the lamplight just enough to illuminate them against the night sky.
The Doctor scoffed.
âDoctor, you have nothing to be jealous about.â She stated again, this time with authority. âI only went on that date to try to get over you.â
âGet over me?â The Doctor asked cluelessly.
Yaz shook her head. âYou are thick sometimes, arenât you?â She lowered her voice. âIt never would have been a competition between the two of you, you know. Doctor, Iâd chose you over anyone in a heartbeat. If you only wanted meâ-
âI do.â The Doctor broke in softly, summoning all the courage she had. âYasmin Khan, I do want you. I always haveâŚmost likely always will. You are absolutely brilliant Yaz. I genuinely enjoy spending time with you. You are amazing, brave, caring andâ-
âDoctor,â Yaz swung her arms around the alienâs neck, burying her face against the others chest. âOh Doctor, you are the one who is absolutely brilliant. I love you Doctor, I truly do.â
The Doctor wrapped the human in her arms, emotions of happiness and joy swelling up inside her. âIâm just a traveller, Iâm nothing special.â She protested.
âOh, but you are Doctor. You are the most amazing person Iâve ever met. You are the best thing to ever happen to me.â
The Doctor swallowed as she kept Yasmin close, smothering her in love. Drowning her, protecting her. She planted a gentle kiss atop her head as they stood there, wrapped up together and silent.
âI love you Yasmin Khan.â The Doctor whispered quietly as her lips brushed the others cheek. âIâm absolutely terrified, but Iâm in love with you.â
Yaz chuckled. âYou? Scared of a bit of feelings? Never would have guessed.â She pulled away to look into the Doctorâs eyes. âWhatever comes, weâll face it together, yeah?â
âYeah,â The Doctor leaned down and kissed her, feeling the beating of her chest against her own. âIâd love that Yaz.â
