now let me tell you that all of them are so beautiful and so gorgeous and so kind and also so very gay.

one of them was an openly gay guy (we’ll call him A) who even went to the theatre wearing his pride flag as a cape. however, he’s always had a hard time with the fact that it’s not easy out there for a gay guy. he often found himself lonely, as much as he wanted to deny it.

B and C were both not out yet, and they kind of struggled with the fact that they were lgbt. like simon, they hid it. like simon, they were afraid of people knowing. and like simon at the beginning, they struggled with internalized homophobia.

D and i, along with A, were out… except to our extremely homophobic parents. why come out to people if you know exactly how they’re gonna act, when you know there’s a chance you might be putting yourself in danger? our parents weren’t bad people, but they were both very traditional and very conservative.

needless to say, after the end of the movie, each and every one of us were a sobbing mess (especially me). and B and C? both of them, on the very same day, came out. to both their friends and their family. A, after a very long time of not having it, found hope. and D and i? we found comfort knowing that despite our parents’ views, we were loved and accepted as we were.

i made this post to show that this is why movies like these are important. this is why this generation’s teenagers NEED this movie. for people like us who struggle with different issues. for people like us who need to feel that validation that it’s okay… because it is okay. we just needed a reminder.
