One of the first things that stuck out to me in verses 1-13 was the lack of faith among the servants of Hezekiah (Eliakim, Shebna, and Joah). I didn't mention it before, but in the previous chapter, their cowardice was made evident in verse 11 where they asked Rabshekki to threaten them in Aramaic so the Israelites wouldn't be able to understand. In chapter 36, there was a lack of trust. In 37, I notice a sense of unfamiliarity between the trio and God. When they come to Isaiah asking him for help, they would always use the impersonal phrase "the LORD YOUR God" as if Yaweh was the God of Isaiah and not the God of everybody. I'm not too sure about what's going on in verses 8-13 but I can tell that Sennacherib is about to get PWNED. Anyway, verses 14-20 is awesome. It's a prayer and I love prayers in the Bible. We can see a drastic difference between the tone offer trio's request to Isaiah and Hezekiah's direct prayer to HIS God. The trio's request had a more "yo Isaiah, we're about to get wiped out. Tell God to do something" tone. On the other hand, Hezekiah's prayer had a more "LORD OUR God, show the Assyrians and the world that you are the one true living God" tone. The former spoke out of fear. The latter spoke out of faith and awe. (I just want to say, as I was reading and noticed that Hezekiah's servants used the phrase "the LORD YOUR God," I was really hoping Hezekiah would say something like "the LORD MY God." And BAM there it was in verse 20 ("our" is close enough). Praise God). I'm gonna continue part 2 in the next post! Ahhhh and don't forget the do vs. be and the tree analogy!
