Otolin doesn’t fall in love easily at all, or at least from a romantic sense. 

It’s a word he places a lot of importance upon, and to associate it with a relationship that might have a potential for romance always takes some time. 

In some cases, it can be a long time. In some ways, it’s a word he didn’t really learn until recently. His past didn’t led itself really to an understanding of love, of how that works, and how he navigates through it.

What if Ithanar wasn’t a spellbreaker…

Ithanar’s path does not differ, at least at first. In the scenario where he does not become a spellbreaker, he still comes into a promotion which leads to a higher-ranking position within Silvermoon’s military and command of a group of soldiers. 

In time, this probably leads to him being stationed at one of the many garrisons on the outskirts of the forests of Quel’Thalas. At this point in life, he leads said garrison in defending the border from the Amani and other threats up until the Scourge destroys the elven kingdom. 

Given that Ithanar does not become a spellbreaker, which then lead to the death of his wife and child, they probably do not die in this timeline… but his brothers Inthius and Ithaerin perish during the massacre. 

In this scenario, the old elf holds true to his duties and continues his service to the rebuilding nation of Sin’dorei.

What if Ithanar was a high elf…

In the wake of the Scourge’s massacre, and the remaining high elves beginning on their path to join Kael’Thas and his demonic masters, a broken and battered Ithanar decides that he can no longer stay in Quel’Thalas. But before this, he still wrests control of the family from his sister trying to fill the hole in his heart. 

In time, he leaves the forests and moves south with various refugees from both his people and the humans of Lordaeron until he reaches the human city of Stormwind.

Given that he never takes in Fel, his eyes still remain blue but he is weak and barely able to walk on some days. It is a certain sign of his coming death, the feedback of arcane and Fel during the Scourge’s attack on the Isle destroying his body from the inside. 

He is able to use some connections to establish himself in a small cabin in Elwynn Forest, content to live out the rest of his days in peace and quiet while slowly suffering. While a cure is available, he chooses not to accept it. At this point, Ithanar has given up. 

It is only a year into his self-imposed exile that Ildrielen is able to track him down and murders him in cold blood, intent on regaining what is hers. 

Three arrows to the chest does the trick.

Ithanar dies without a fight, the blue fading from already dimming eyes. 

What if Iadric lost the Light…

It would not be the first time.

When Lordaeron fell, Iadric’s attempts to save his teacher and comrade Taraine ended in failure and led to him being shattered to the core. He lost his connection to the Light shortly thereafter, and had to escape down to the south relying upon what skills he had. 

He regained his connection to the Light later, which is quite the story (perhaps for another time), but in a situation where he loses it again? Something rather monumental would have to occur, whether that be the loss of a loved one or an earth-shattering event that breaks what he believes in.
