My Shepard (the player character) is so focused on the whole ‘save the universe’ problem their attraction to Thane completely takes them by surprise. They don’t even realize they can spend hours talking to him between missions, don’t notice that the only way they can unwind enough to get any sleep is after they’ve spent time together, even if it’s just sitting in the same room and reading. (my Shepard just thinks they like it just because it’s quiet and even in their quarters people will come bother them about Reaper stuff. Shepard tells EDI to specifically never say when Shepard is in life support with than; everybody else is a little wary around Thane, so he rarely gets visitors).

Thane knows pretty immediately tho. He just tries to hold off as long as he can because you know. he doesn’t deserve it. he’s dying. he’s already been married. Shepard has too much on their plate. would that not distract from Shepard’s mission? he was brought on to do a job- that’s all, a job- and he is likely to die fighting the Reapers anyway-
