Under the cut, listen to my ramble about my Blood elf, Thalan.
The lad's name is Thalan Brightblade, a strictly holy priest (or so he says) he hardly touched fel when that was going around, and he's pretty much obsessed with flowers. Not in a creepy way or anything, he's a herbioligist, or whatever that's called, and loves to research about all kinds of plants, and find uses for all of everything. He seems like your typical blood elf on the surface, and he loves to travel around a lot with his wife. He practices his arts, gathers his flowers, and researches them etc etc. But, as you may guess, there is a lot more going on underneath the surface. Thalan, despite consistently insisting he's only touched holy, never even looked at anything void related, is very much...intrigued by the old gods. In his study, he has a specific area dedicated to researching everything void related, spells, history, Naga, people affected by it, dragons, etc. This almost obsession had developed from his household, his entire family being holy related, paladins, priests, things like that. Talk of the void was always strictly forbidden, if you broke that rule, you'd be punished. Makes sense.Â
But that only made Thalan more curious. Out of his brothers, he was the one fondly referred to as the nerd version of his older brother, loving to learn and having a near need to learn everything, he never wanted to be out of the know. After the wrath of the Lich King stuffs happened, his oldest brother, Sven'ith died to the scourge (He was later raised as a dk) Thalan's interests turned to darker things. He spent so much of his time researching and learning as much as he could on the scourge, going so far as to capture specimens and dissect them while they still moved, just to try and understand it more. He kept these things he did hidden, as much as he could, from his family, playing the good middle child, and protecting his younger brother, Nelivash, from as much harm as possible.
After the Lich King was defeated, and Sven'ith came back and basically broke down the door and yelled cuss words and was promptly tackled by Thalan's paladin father, Thalan began to space himself from his family but kept closely to his risen brother. He asked him dozens of questions about being undead, never left him alone about it, though Sven really didn't mind. He was just glad to be home. Thalan avoided forsaken, though, they seemed to irritate him.It was around this time that his...interest...with the void began to grow, and his more major research on it began. He started to look for relics, for objects tainted with void, he would bring it home, (He moved out by this time, somewhere fairly obscure) Â and experiment on it. not sure what exactly he did, but up until now he hasn't actually dabbled in being a shadow priest, just did a lot of research, which of course affected him in a lot of strange ways.
He likes to talk to himself, for one thing.
After a while of this, Sven is sent to fetch Thalan(He was accepted back into the family after not too long of time) and once again, broke down the door. This time, he was promptly shot with an actual gun. Thalan didn't even apologize, just stared at him like, "what are you doing here," and Sven's just, "Go the fuck outside bro ur pale lol,".
Sven starts to regularly drag him outside, forcing him to start socializing again. Thalan is acting strange, but seems to quickly remember how to do the thing and re assimilates. He gets back into contact with a young woman named Zalia who he'd been previously close to, they hit it off, yada yada, they date more yada yada i don't have too many details on the major stuff, but point is, it takes Thalan away from his void research. After cataclysm, they end up marrying, wanting to just stay together and live a relatively happy life through Pandaria (experience lots of trouble with the whole Garrosh dictator ship and end up moving back to Silvermoon) and manage to stay together throughout WoD, though Thalan and her end up joining the war effort and get stuck on Draenor, to which Thalan promptly dragged them both everywhere and wrote down a lot about the plant life.
Legion, however, is when things start changing for them again. Zalia is the main one who joins the war effort, spending lots of time in the paladin class hall and the two of them aren't together as much.In the midst of this, Thalan picks back up his research in hopes of becoming stronger, he starts to dabble in the void arts more, unlike before when he just wanted to learn. He avoids the fel as much as possible, which somehow makes him lean further and further into the void. His mannerisms start changing again, he starts to forget that they were trying to fight the legion in favor of learning more about the void, He starts talking to himself again now that Zalia wasn't around as much.
He never learned how to properly control the Void, which of course, p much fucks him over. I don't have too much detailed out in these parts since its more recent and stuff. Plus I don't have nearly as much known about the void as I probably should. Regardless, Thalan spends the rest of his time avoiding the legion and using this time instead to research and examine void things. When he did get attacked, he would fight back violently, more chaotic then his previous fighting style of controlled light.
The moment Zalia got back however, he seems.....to just revert back to normal? The legion now defeated, Zalia is able to be him and around Thalan again, and to her? It didn't seem like too much changed, even though she was more battle hardened. Thalan's explanation for this was that he spent most of his time running then fighting and avoiding things as much as possible. When asked why he was so pale and almost too thin, he just said towards the end of it all, he stayed in an underground bunker. This is half true, he was in an underground bunker, but he wasn't just trying to survive. He kept pushing his own limits, and would talk to himself constantly like there was someone down there with him. The whispers sounded like his wife anyways, what was the harm?
But Zalia would notice the way he fought now, no longer precise and accurate, wild and violent and untempered and harshly
When questioned, he only responded with, "When you have to adapt, you adapt," whatever that meant.
He stayed inside more, he didn't like to be outside it seemed, but Zalia always brushed it off as previous anxiety from the legion and well, seeing Argus in the sky constantly even though it was gone now.
Whenever she caught him talking to himself? Well, he said that he recorded live journal entries that he later transcripted and then deleted the recording for. Again, a partial truth. He did write journal entries, but not live. He liked the voices in his head though, they made him feel like he was with someone a lot, and urged him to learn more and find more relics
It was these relics that drove him to start building things of his own, practice with infusing things. At first, he infused things with light, wanting to show them off to Zalia, a light-welder, before dabbling deeper into the void arts, making weapons specifically infused with void and such.
He especially liked to make guns, one of his specialties being a strange sort of blaster and that could possibly temporarily mind control the victim to jump off the closest ledge
The weapons were dark, but Thalan reasons with himself, "As long as I don't use them on good people, then I'm not doing anything bad, it's just research!"
After BFA started, the two of them agreed to not take part in the war effort too much, avoid it as much as possible, and Thalan is still currently keeping most of his research under wraps.
Thalan!
This guy appears in the main story, being Csenge’s brother’s boyfriend :)
But I also have a whole story for him in mind, if it ever comes to that ° w °
