I just got finished reading Tokyo Ghoul Jack and I thought it was pretty nice seeing Arima have a somewhat high school experience despite being relatively alone. Minami and her views on humanity was interesting as well. What are your thoughts on Jack? Any deeper symbolism in the story that you may have noticed?
I love Jack. It’s fantastic, and it makes me cry. Though I would say Arima’s high school experience I found incredibly heartbreaking, because he had so much potential to be a wonderful human (like, it’s constantly a joke that Arima doesn’t know how to act human--Ui jokes like that in the omakes, etc, but.) He could have had a normal life, because he clearly desired to connect with Fura and Minami.
@kingkishou wrote this meta on Arima in Jack. It’s old (written before Arima died) but I think it does a pretty good job explaining Arima’s characterization in that one-shot. And no, I’m not tearing up right now thinking about Arima’s life.
