Having a large texture library
Having a large texture library is important for many reason. When doing 3D modeling and animation, you never know what kind of texture you will need! You could need a various type of textures for characters, objects, and terrain. One may not think you would need such variations in textures and materials, but when you notice things in your environment and whats around you, you begin to see and realize there’s a lot of different textures! Also, having all these textures and materials available to you, you can pick the correct one that will make your model and animation look more real. So how does one create and gather so many textures and materials? There are a couple ways you can do this. One way is to go online and search for textures and materials. You may even be able to find a web site where you can download texture library for free. Another way, is to make your own (which will be shown in another article)! This is a rather easy thing to do, a bit more work then looking for things online, but it is a bit more satisfying then finding them online. Basically, you want to find something that might make a great texture and material, take your camera, take as much of a straight on photo as you can (less work that way), and put it on the computer into your library.
In your texture library it is also a good idea to divide the types of textures into categories, such as ground, wood, tile, and rock. This way it is less confusing for you when you are searching for the texture you are looking for you. Another thing to keep in mind with your textures is to make sure that they are smooth if you were to tile that particular texture. Which is called having a “seamless” texture. With all these things you can now grow your texture library and be prepared for anything when modeling in 3D!
