Where did the idea that the clan members are just as afraid of all pokemon as people in Jubilife come from? Am I missing a line of dialog somewhere???
Like, the clan members talk about having partner pokemon whom they were raised beside like siblings, the ones you fight have more than one pokemon, and use all of them at the same time in battles (which has to take a fair amount of co-ordination and understanding of their abilities). The settlements themselves both have pokemon just actively chilling in their houses from the first visit (maybe not as many as in later jubilife, but that can be chalked up to game design and resources. The settlements are not as important locations as Jubilife within the context of the game). One of the diamond clan members has an entire gaggle of psyducks.
Being wary/cautious of wild pokemon absolutely makes sense, from a self-preservation standpoint, and there are certain pokemon for which a common fear makes sense based on their pokedex entries, but an outright generalized fear in the same way we see some jubilife residents just... doesn't?
The clans have a healthy respect for pokemon, and possibly some misunderstandings/superstitions about certain ones, but I just cannot track with the idea that wardens and the clan leaders are the only ones not afraid of them, or with pokemon of their own.
There is in-game evidence that shows this is not the case.
