MOD MAKING TIPS

depends on what u wanna do! first off some basic tools you’re gonna need:

GIMP or pshop, if you can have that... my father’s an art student so he gets a student discount silence on CC, but GIMP is what two of my friends use and they swear by it. This is for texture editing, and even if you’re doing mesh editing you might need to work some with that.

a normal map and dds plugin for that program of choice. this you will have to google my friend but just look for ‘normal map plugin for GIMP’ and ‘dds plugin for GIMP’ aaand ‘NVIDIA dds photoshop’ that should ead u to it!

ERF Packer. There are like 3 out there, poke around and find the one that suits u.

The DA2 Savegame editor. Not only a useful tool for minor game alterations and editing but VERY useful for mod making.

Also make sure to dl the optional file that translates Bioware’s gibberish encrypting to human language, under the ‘files’ tab.

Blender 2.49 and also Blender 2.56. The former is for mesh modding and thu latter might be a little easier to do sculpting in.

TIPS! I have them:

Start with something small. If you want to break into hairs but have zero experience, get familiar with the savegame editor. Learn how to extract files, how to change hair and eye color, how to change hair style of NPCs.

Do a texture! All meshes and textures for da2 are stored in artfp. Crack it open. Make sure the stored folder heirarchy is [mod name] > art > characters > playercharacter > [variable] > textures, [variable] being humanmale, elffemale, dwarfmale etc.

If you’re doing mesh modding please Always! Check! Your meshes! Your MMH and MSH are vital, pop open others to make sure they look right. Trust me. I’ve cried over invisible bodies only to find out there was a typo somewhere I am not smart.
