Molly Drag - Tethered Rendering First / Red / 100
MOLLY DRAG - Found A Gun In Montréal
Things look so much different when viewed in retrospect; we’re primarily concerned with self-preservation, which, while not bad on its head, gives us a skewed view of our surroundings. I knew someone just like who Michael Hansford sings about when he mentions “another drug store kid/with a First Aid kit”. I was just concerned with not being bullied by them; 20 years on, I can see the scared kid with absentee parents trying to put it together all by themselves.
Tethered Rendering, the second full-length from MOLLY DRAG, exudes this sort of warm hopelessness, not lying to the listener by telling them it’s going to get better, but letting them know they’re not alone in their journey. “Found A Gun In Montréal” paints quite the unhappy familial picture, but it doesn’t ring hollow; emotional honesty is a touchstone of Hansford’s work, and it shines here. Molly Drag is the work of Michael Hansford, a songwriter from London, Ontario whose beautiful debut album "Deeply Flawed" promptly enchanted us.
