Y'all know what time it is? New Ruthlessness is Mercy chapter Time!
For the first time since he'd fallen into the Endless Abyss, it felt like he could take a breath of fresh air.
Which immediately put his guard up, reprieve like this was usually no more than an indicator for a trap of some kind. And then he saw the hoof print. It was large, but not overly so, considering the fauna of the Abyss could easily reach the size of prehistoric beasts, and an inkling of where he was occurred to Shen Yuan.
This came close to a miracle. Not that he had found himself here, since Shen Yuan had encountered most of the same things as Luo Binghe on his journey through the Abyss since they were heading towards the same destination. No, the miracle of this hoof print was that it was one of the very rare occasions where Airplane had tried his hand at foreshadowing and then later paid it off.

Next Chapter of Ruthlessness is Mercy is up, y'all!
And honestly I think I've suffered more in the last week than SY has in this chapter XD I don't like the current temperatures at all, gotta say
Yue Qingyuan trailed his gaze around the room filled with his fellow Peak Lords. Even these meetings, the most basic part of his duties as sect leader, had become arduous to him. Every time Yue Qingyuan's eyes strayed to the spot behind the second ranked Peak Lord's seat he was firmly reminded of that gaping absence. In the time directly after that ill-fated Immortal Alliance Conference that vacancy had been filled by two of Qing Jing Peak's junior disciples, taking over for both their da-shixiong and shizun, since Shen Qingqiu had shut himself away in seclusion. Now, with their Peak Lord's return to duty it was only the boy who remained, stepping in in for his missing da-shixiong.
He too was straining beneath the absence of Qing Jing Peak's head disciple, face tight and eyes dull as he stood vigil behind his shizun. Shen Qingqiu himself looked like he always did in these meetings, the half of his face visible above his fan making clear his impatience to be somewhere else. Yue Qingyuan would only admit in the quiet of his own mind that he too felt like this nowadays.
After the meeting had concluded, Yue Qingyuan approached Shen Qingqiu, who narrowed his eyes and gestured for his disciple, who had lingered alongside his master, expression somewhere between concerned and curious, to get lost. For a moment, Yue Qingyuan just took in the sight of his shidi, looking for the minute hints as to his real state of mind.
Truly, by outward appearance Shen Qingqiu did not look much different than before, but Yue Qingyuan, saw the deepened hollowness of his eyes and the frailness of the wrist holding aloft an exquisitely painted fan depicting Qing Jing's bamboo forest. To Yue Qingyuan it made him look younger, the shadow of their tumultous past overlapping with the pain of the present.
Two posts in like a week (within seven days so it totally counts)?! More likely than you think!
Hereby I bring you the newest chapter of Ruthlessness is Mercy! Please enjoy!
With the corpse of the Three Jawed Cave Bear cooling at his feet, a neat gash cut into its belly, Shen Yuan's fingers curled around the fan until his knuckles creaked. Anger flared white hot inside his chest, as his fingers turned the same colour as the jade.
He'd used the thing as a trinket for years, without even suspecting what a priceless cultivation tool it was. Worse was the thought of who had given it to him. Jealous, selfish Shen Qingqiu, who in PIDW envied a poor boy his dead mother and decided to torment him because he'd once been loved. That very man had given him such a precious artefact. Worst of all was how thoughtful a gift it was.
And Shen Yuan had never even realized.
He wrenched his eyes open, shoved the fan back into his sleeve and settled in for some fitful rest, unwilling to waste more of his thoughts on the bastard he'd called his shizun, who was a terrible man that didn't deserve even an ounce of goodwill.
Long time no read! I'm finally back with the next chapter for Ruthlessness is Mercy
“I trust Binghe completely. You absolutely can do it. There really isn't any doubt—“ Before Shen Yuan could finish his sentence, his eyes suddenly fell shut, face going lax followed by his body crumbling like a puppet without strings.
Luo Binghe just managed to catch his limp frame before it hit the ground. Panic mounted inside him, as he shook his da-shixiong's shoulders but all Shen Yuan did in response was loll his head around and mumble something incoherent.
“Da-shixiong!” Luo Binghe called out to him repeatedly, but he would not rouse.
“Would you stop your bleating? Sheep indeed.” Luo Binghe's head shot up at the sound of the unfamiliar voice, looking for its origin, blood boiling with anger, because undoubtedly the voice's owner was the one responsible for all of this.
“Ah, yes you would be right in that. Not so slow after all.” While the voice spoke a figure manifested itself from the hazy surroundings of the dream realm until it had formed into an old man grinning down at Luo Binghe with sharp teeth.
“What have you done to my da-shixiong!?” Angry tears were brimming at the rims of his eyes while his fingers helplessly clutched at the robes of the motionless Shen Yuan. Here, now, finally was the perpetrator behind this misadventure.
“This master merely sent your oh so precious da-shixiong into a deeper sphere of dreams. You should be thankful I've done so, you wouldn't want him awake for this little conversation.” The expression on the demon’s face was unbearably smug as he floated down to settle across from Luo Binghe.
“Why?” Luo Binghe asked, scowling at the demon mistrustfully while he drew Shen Yuan even closer to his chest. Had he not had such precious cargo in his arms he would have crossed them.
“Because I have so graciously decided to offer you my tutelage. Certainly, a righteous aspiring cultivator like your da-shixiong should stay ignorant of such a connection with a demon.”
“Why would I want that?” Luo Binghe asked with no small trace of venom lacing his voice. “Who even are you?”
The old man tsked, obviously displeased by Luo Binghe's open rudeness. Not that Luo Binghe cared one bit about this demon’s opinion. Especially not in the face of what he had done to his da-shixiong.
“I must say what an insolent little brat. To a man who would lend you a helping hand. A life like yours is not to be trusted. You want to prosper? You'll need all the aid you can ask for. I'm the great Dream Demon Meng Mo. There are so many skills I have to offer.”
Luo Binghe's frown only deepened as the demon opened his arms as if in invitation. “Wouldn't you like a taste of great power? Wouldn't you like to use no more than words? Deep in the night the fight lasts for hours. You can be hurt or you could be heard. Wouldn't you like to have some of my magic, wouldn't you like your outcome preferred? Deep in the night a fight wouldn't end tragic.”
The more and more the demon talked, the more thunderous Luo Binghe's expression became. Shen Yuan had warned him plenty, and made him read many a tale about young promising cultivators falling for just such offers at an easy path forward that only led to ruin.
Luo Binghe was just about to refuse the demon once more, when the old man's gleaming eyes landed on Shen Yuan's peacefully sleeping face. “It might help conquer him.” He tipped his bearded chin towards Shen Yuan's sleeping form.
Hello, hello long time no see! New chapter for Ruthlessness is Mercy is live!
“I'm not worried about that,” Shen Yuan assured as he bestowed Luo Binghe's curls with gentle pats. “This shixiong is already very proud of Binghe.” Shen Yuan was ready to keep it at that but Luo Binghe of course caught that he had avoided the actual question.
“What then is Da-shixiong worried about?” Shen Yuan retracted his arm, reaching for the dark wood fan in his sleeve and bit his lip. Luo Binghe was like a dog with a bone in situations like this but Shen Yuan couldn't actually tell him the truth.
“If someone you cared about is faced with an opportunity for growth but you know that it'll come with great hardship, should you try and deny them that opportunity?” There, vague enough even for the system, that or Shen Yuan had been successful in his muting spree.
A furrow appeared in between the strong lines of Luo Binghe's brows right over where soon his demon mark would emerge once his cradle seal broke. “I believe that depends on the severity of harm and the potential for growth but, generally, codling will only lead to more harm in the end.”
Shen Yuan nodded along. Such a reasonable answer but what else had he expected from Luo Binghe?

Happy New Year and happy new chapter of Ruthlessness is Mercy everyone!
Cang Qiong Mountain was dealing with the fall out from the Immortal Alliance Conference.
Not well mind you.
The biggest indicator of that was the absence of a smile on Yue Qingyuan's face. The man always smiled, different flavours for different occasions, friendly, annoyed, patient, impatient, threatening, Yue Qingyuan truly had a vast collection of smiles to choose from. Worryingly he couldn't even seem to manage a sad smile right now.
It is once again (finally) time for the newest chapter of Ruthlessness is Mercy! It's the one that really spawned this whole ass Idea in the first place
Shen Yuan made another attempt to get up and stumble his way over to Luo Binghe who was writhing around on the ground clutching his head as demonic energy kept pulsing off of him in choking clouds.
Still, Shen Yuan braved the energy and crouched down next to Luo Binghe, fearfully calling out to him. Blood was pouring out of Luo Binghe's five orifices and the fingers digging into his hair had grown dark claws. Shen Yuan's hands shook, heart aching at the sight before him, as he reached out to stop those claws from inflicting more damage unto Luo Binghe's already mangled body.
He carefully freed Luo Binghe's fingers from his tangled hair, gently pressed his hands against Luo Binghe's temples and began to push his own spiritual energy through the contact to counteract the billowing demonic energy.
It's once again time for a new chapter of Ruthlessness is Mercy!
Have fun reading and do keep your eyes peeled for a one shot on account of mermay starting (that I was writing yesterday instead of editing chapter 6). It should be up sometime soonish!
Dread started to settle in as Shen Yuan neared the bamboo house, not sure what he should expect but knowing to better anticipate the worst. Shen Yuan took a deep breath before he opened the door. He found Shen Qingqiu at his table, already going through paperwork from the looks of it.
His master raised his head as he heard him enter, and Shen Yuan startled at the sight of his face. The man had cleaned himself up, hair once again neat and wearing a fresh set of robes. Though he had missed a singular dot high on his cheek, the blood an angry red against his pale chin.
“Greeting Shizun, this one has brought you a meal and medicine as per Mu-shishu's instructions.” Shen Qingqiu didn't so much as blink as Shen Yuan placed the tray down at the edge of the desk, careful not to place it on any of the documents.
Shen Yuan would have been all too happy to just leave the man be but Shen Qingqiu was still staring at him with eyes like a tiger’s assessing its prey, not inclined to dismiss him.
“Do you believe I killed him?” The question shattered the silence with the same amount of devastation as a boulder crashing through a field of rice. Shen Yuan found himself frozen in place. What was he even supposed to answer here? If he said no too quickly Shen Qingqiu would think he was lying, and he couldn't just say yes either!
All he could do in that moment was stare at Shen Qingqiu in alarm, his master’s eyes were sharp as always but somehow the jut of his chin wasn't quite as imperious as usual. Somehow it looked almost defiant. How strange.
