The idea that you should do what you love for a living is a theme that crops up left, right and centre, yet there is a discord between the number of spokesmen and those that actually translate it into their own life. The same goes for those that advocate environmentalism, but compromise their care for nature in their profession.
Sagebrush Board Bags is among others that are joining a movement to refashion what’s already there and is going to waste, into beautiful things that last. The company is at an interesting point where she wants it to stay small enough to be able to feel free and stay spontaneous. At the same time, there’s a need to balance its popularity and growing demand, as well as her desire for it to grow so she can work with friends and try other creations.

How have you managed to balance working hard and not having a time schedule?
Anything is productive if you want it to be. Hiking helps me clear my mind, surfing grounds me, and I start a lot of relationships in the water. I’ve come up with dreams and ways to attain them while laying sleepily in bed. I don’t think it’s lazy to take weeks off for surf trips, I always come back more excited to work on projects.
I don’t like deadlines. I do things when they get done. I work hard but I run my own schedule. I don’t think I’d be able to manage working 8 hours a day, 5 days a week and stay in a good state of mind.
Being able to surf, travel, and have time to myself without someone looking over my shoulder, are the things that are most important to me.
Routine is a hole I don’t ever want to sit in. Anything else is good…just depends on how you look at it. I have no aspirations of being rich so my philosophies on work and starting a business are going to stray from the average person. I solely want happiness and I find that in the purest form in the ocean, the natural environment, and through relationships with people and animals and my creative outlets. They say anything you love works out…so far so good.
