Temple of Hera, Selinunte
Temple E at Selinunte, Sicily
This picture-perfect temple was built toward the middle of the 6th century, and it’s the best conserved of the temples of Selinunte. How is it so intact? Temple E, also known as the Temple of Hera, was reconstructed in 1959 and is a Greek temple in Sicily in the east of the city’s acropolis. This style contains a peristyle with six columns on the front, and fifteen on the long sides. However, the architecture marks a transition between two styles, from the archaic to the classical period. Selinunte is an ancient city on the south-western coast of the island, featuring five temples centered on an acropolis, which is a settlement the Greeks used as religious places of worship.
