Hiya! Was watching some Harry Potter and thought of how cool it would’ve been if TellTale had made a Harry Potter game. Was this ever planned and/or what are your thoughts on that concept?
Never planned to my knowledge. The JamCity made mobile game Hogwarts Mystery is probably pretty close to what a theoretical Telltale HP game would be like.
In that you play as a new student and go on adventures tangential to the main storyline of the books, which is smart because unless the game is non-canon, you need to avoid interacting with the main cast of HP too much, since your choices couldn’t affect them, with their destinies set in stone.
That’s the same issue the TTG game of thrones game had, canon characters have plot armor so for there to be choices that matter, you need to make a story that flirts with the big franchise plot, but is about a new cast whom you can control the outcome of.
The school setting and focus on interpersonal relations with other students would be fertile ground for a TTG game in general tho. Like how I always thought if you made a TTG Spider-Man game you’d end up focusing on his high school life a lot more than most Spider-Man media.
