I pray to Asclepius more often than i initially intended, I’ll have to make an actual altar for him and his children. Or at least add their imagery to Apollo’s. I tend to use his altar as surrogate for his family and associations.
Why wasn't Telesphorus at Troy with his brothers? :(
great question and thank you for asking! there’s a few reasons why:
a. Telesphorus is a god, Machaon and Podalirius are not.
b. Telesphorus is a child deity and uhh not suitable for combat
c. The Asclepius and correlating Telesphorus cult didn’t gain much popularity until the third century, after the Plague of Athens. The Iliad was written earlier than this.
d. Telesphorus, being a god, was presumably sired by Asclepius after his and Epione’s apotheosis. Homer, however, seems to describe Asclepius as mortal and does not use epithets (do note Paean) so it is possible that at the time of the Trojan War Telesphorus had not been born.
Which of Asclepius’s sons is your favorite?
Machaon
Podalirius
Telesphorus
Aratus
