"Telescopium + Reticulum" by Matt Rockefeller
The constellations Telescopium and Reticulum represent the telescope and the reticle, two tools used to view and make observations about the stars and other celestial bodies. The card depicts an image of a woman standing at her window, gesturing out at the vastness of the starry sky as her birds are released out into the night. She stands between what is known and what is unknown, but she faces the open window hopefully.
Curious explorers gaze through lenses into the unknown, hoping to discover and understand what is beyond their familiar landscape. Careful observation has revealed distant lands caught in the cross-hairs of the reticle. It has pinpointed new stars and vast amounts of space where a brave soul might adventure one day.
Symbolically, this card refers to the act of assessing the potential for discovery and exploration. It is about the search for the unknown, and a change to learn from that which is unfamiliar. This card references both the search and the discovery, as well as the ability to make sense of things that are out of reach but intriguing all the same.
Reversed, this card cautions against illusion. It may be a good idea double-check that what one is seeing through a hopeful lens is not just a mirage.
If this card appears in a reading with Microscopium, a person may find their observational and instinctual vision is crystal clear. Now is a great time to look around and see what opportunities may appear!
WIP from April 29th, 2020 I’ve been under quarantine for about a month and half now and it’s been absolutely exhausting because no one will let me sleep more than 3-5 hours around here!!!!! But, I wanted to post at least something today while I wrestle with my chronic fatigue, so take my scribbles in the meantime lmaooooo I’ve been thinking a lot about incidental characters lately, I guess as a way to mess around and have fun within a project’s world without thinking too hard about the greater story at hand, especially when I’m too tired to do any actual writing or designing. @_@ For Starglass Zodiac I have a lot to work with when it comes to constellation designs, even incidental ones. Some of them are just objects, and appear as such on the Astral Plane, but similar to the zodiac and their companions (and for the sake of variety), some of these designs are personifications of those objects instead. That’s the case with Telescopium here. I have ideas for the two crown constellations as well (Corona Borealis and Corona Australis) but those names have uh... unfortunate timing. I initially pictured this design with two goggle-like lenses, but the one eye lens makes more sense for a telescope. Combined with the three legs though, he looks a lot like Pleakley from Lilo and Stitch. In fact right now he looks like a combo of Pleakley and B.E.N. from Treasure Planet. Having two eye lenses makes him look slightly less alien, and perhaps a bit more friendly. The legs are meant to mimic a tripod and I like that idea a lot, but I’ll have to play with for the rest of his details and shape language. I could have two be legs and one be a tail or something, but we’ll see. As I said before I just wanted to post something today, even if it’s only an hour or so in the making thus far. I never show this level of messiness and indecision with my WIPs usually, but that’s really what this blog is for, lol.
