I have friends online I've gotten to know well yet I've hardly even seen their face... and people I barely know who I have seen way more of than is right and proper.

By strange coincidence, the one thing that most sets off my second-hand embarrassment, the thing that makes me just wince and squinch my eyes up, is when internet infants declare something âcringey.â  Because I know of  no more transparently pathetic, desperate, and ultimately doomed flail in the direction of trying to make yourself feel cool.  âCringeyâ is the candy cigarette of internet speak.
meanwhile in youtube ...
Shit my sons are inexplicably obsessed with on YouTube...
1.) Other people playing Minecraft.
2.) Other people opening Kinder Surprise eggs.
3.) Other people unboxing ridiculously expensive collectibles I will never buy for them because they will destroy them so fast it's unreal.
4.) Epic Rap Battles of History. It's not really inexplicable, they watch it because I love it but they don't understand them. They just like to dance to the beat and sometimes there's super heroes.
5.) Trains. That's it. Just trains being trains and doing... train things.
Oh internet. How did people parent before you existed?

This was all kinds of stupid, but I have additional thoughts:
Dude, it's just three dollars. A semester.
If you need more than 10GB a week for your protein-folding research or whatever, you can get 500GB a week all semester for eight dollars. (Dude, it's just eight dollars.)
I mostly think ITS really screwed up on this one. Internet access in this day and age is not an amenity. It's a mission-critical part of education. It should have just been added to the technology fee.
Students must purchase a bandwidth plan to use university networks (except for the public computer workstations in the General Libraries).
Bandwidth Details - Public Internet Access
Wow. I could understand utaustin's policy of charging heavy users of bandwidth, but charging all students to use the Internet (except for the public computer workstations in the General Libraries*) is cray-cray.
*I take this to mean that students canât access the Internet without a subscription from other labs, including the UT-only library labs.

KA SemĂŤnova updates Nabokovâs short story âSigns and Symbolsâ (and works by other famous Russian authors) for McSweeneyâs, âteh internetsâ and the digital world.
This is delightful, sister would definitely approve.Â
