[ techsubject ] There's a moment of desperate grasping, Hal's clinging onto the fabric of David's pants with absolute terror. Then soft fingers touch heated skin and Hal downright keens, his own hand tugging at the one touching him. He can't let go. He can't, he can't, he CAN'T. But then the hand is gone again and Hal can't help but make another, louder, incoherent sound. No. No. No, no, no, no. There's no more sound now. No more muffled talking or footsteps. Just the hissing static and the roaring ocean in his ears and the deep deep loneliness that comes with both of those things as his temperature rises even further. A hundred and ten degrees Fahrenheit. A hundred and fifteen degrees Fahrenheit. A hundred and twenty degrees Fahrenheit. Hal makes another sound,"__;;!-||¬¡¡." It's a screech, a downright terrifying wail. It hurts. It hurts hurts hurts but with every passing second the pain slips further into the slow burn of the flames engulfing him from the inside out and there's liquid static and numbers and tar and blood pouring from joints and eyes and ears and his mouth and it's all PAIN. But then there's muffled talking and the breathing of another being is back and yes. A softer noise this time. Something like a chirp. "---*-." He lifts his head to peer up at the vague shape before him through the haze of static clouding his vision. Is the static visible in his eyes? Does that matter? Probably not, but his thoughts can't stay on anything because his temperature has reached a hundred and fourty degrees and the sweet call of temporary shutdown is like sirens' song to him. Submit to the heat, it calls. Let the dark and the void and the cool ocean waves drag you down. And now his limbs are heavy and his eyes are only half open amd he chirps one more time because he thinks it's an actual coherent sentence. And everything is warm, so warm, so he lets his hand reach out to carress the other's leg and then. No. NO. Hal shrieks because the cold something on his core and control panel brings him back in a overwhelming blast of cold and he was so close, he had almost lost it and the inky black tendrils were wiping up the fluids pouring from every part of him and now he's back. He SCREAMS, his free hand reaching to tear into his own eye socket because no no no no no. NO NO NO NO. And the other is shredding David's pants leg as the AI twists and writhes beneath him. "NO. NO. NO. NO. PUT ME BACK. BACKKKJSHHHGSVS_;!.##"

Well I am online now.
Did you know that cats sit in boxes because they feel both safer and more comfortable in small spaces?
That is the explanation I offer for sitting in a box in the hallway.
