Follow 👉 @insider_folks for more updates The government on April 16 decided to waive off the rent being paid by these units till June which is a huge relief to IT and ITeS companies operating out of Software Technology Parks of India, as the firms face challenging times due to the COVID-19 outbreak. "IT units/ startups operating from 60 STPI Centers across India have been granted a waiver from paying rent for the period between 01.03.2020 and 30.06.2020. This will benefit nearly 200 small & medium IT/ITeS units supporting 3000 direct jobs," tweeted the Union Minister of Electronics and IT, Ravi Shankar Prasad. The total cost of the rental waiver provided to these units during the period is estimated to be around ₹5 Crore. STPI, an autonomous society under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, has 60 centres across the country in cities such as Bengaluru, Chennai, Mumbai, and Kolkata, Nagpur, Warangal, and Surat. Most of the companies located in these parks are either tech MSMEs or startups. "The initiative to provide a rental waiver to the units located in these centres will provide relief to the industry in this crisis emerged due to COVID19 pandemic. This initiative will provide benefit to nearly 200 IT/ ITeS MSMEs, operating from these 60 STPI centres," a statement issued by the Press Information Bureau said.
