Now, Thomas was a student here way back when, he knew what it was like - it was quite a long time ago, but there were things people just didnāt forget and this place was one of them. Ā Despite the hardships, it had some sort of appeal, clearly, because he was back here. Ā In fact, heād been here a good week and a half and so far, nobodyās managed to need him for anything - which was fine with him. Ā He was an introvert through and through, and this was a very⦠physical place. Ā
But whatever, he had his office, which he spend most of his time here decorating, and the little cart with his laptop on it when he inevitably had to figure out what was going wrong throughout the campus. Ā Thomas figured that if he looked busy, typing away or with his phone tucked between his cheek and shoulder that nobody would bother him with any questions, especially not while he was on his lunch break where he was scarfing down quesadillas in the lounge. Ā And he could sense it, eyes on his cart and someone about to invade his personal space. Ā āCan I at least finish my lunch before you ask me why your laptopās not printing, or whatever?ā he asked, swallowing down the remnants of his food. Ā āTry turning it on and off again in the meantime. Ā Isnāt there a ball, later, shouldnāt you be getting ready?ā
āI knew it,ā Leslie sighed heavily looking down at his brown suit. He really was trying to make an effort. But he didnāt know a thing about fashion or parties, let alone balls or Events like this. People kept calling it an āEventā like it was something major and so he felt rather obligated to at least turn up for a little while.
āItās not fancy enough, is it? Isnāt it? I didnāt want to spend money on a suit I was only going to wear once. Ah, i didnāt even want to go to this stupid party. Iāll be so under-dressed.ā Heās almost forgotten why he approached the young man in the first place, getting so distracted with his self doubt over the suit in the first place. The theme just reminded him how much of an outsider he was as well. It was winter in new Zealand now, not summer. And not one bird themed mask specifically native to his homeland, a land full to bursting with birds. New Zealand was a lot smaller to the world than heād thought. It was rather depressing.
āIām sorry, I didnāt mean to upset your lunch... Iāll... Could you come by my office after youāve finished?ā
