14 Wakanda-approved Hairstyles (for when you need to be fabulous at the Black Panther premiere, or any day, really!)
We already know that black people everywhere are going to the theatre dressed to the nines, but have you planned your hairstyle for the Black Panther opening? We’re celebrating a black superhero, majority black cast and directors, set in Africa, during Black History Month. This is OUR movie y’all.
Queen Lupita opted for a beautiful sculptural hairstyle, inspired by the Fulani tribe in Nigeria, and created by celebrity hairstylist Vernon Francois. But just in case you don’t have a celebrity hairstylist at your disposal, here are a few options to slay the premiere....
1. Goddess Braid: Issa Rae looks amazing with these goddess braids, atop tapered sides.
2. Afro: Whether your hair is short or long, an afro is an amazing choice. And with today’s choice of clip ins available, volume isn’t a problem. Yara Shahidi is serving curls by the pound.
3. Locs: These gorgeous locs are simply beautiful, but you can add all types of adornments, such as shells, hair jewellery or beads if you wish You can mimic this style by getting faux locs or goddess locs installed. BONUS: it’s an amazing protective style.
4. Two Braids: We love the wire intertwined in this simplest of hair styles. This is not your childhood plait - it’s all grown up!
5. Cornrows: aka the Lemonade braids are a great option for the movie premiere!
6. Rock a head wrap: Show off all those bright patterns and prints ladies! This is the easiest style to pull off, and bonus if you’re deep conditioning under there. No one has to know!
7. Bald: Have you seen Sanaa Lathan’s new hair??? Sometimes the best hair is no hair. p.s. We love her huge statement necklace
8. Fulani-inspired Braids: Even though Wakanda is a fictional country located in East Africa, we’re absolutely certain that these Fulani braids would fit right in at the premiere.
9. Bantu Knots: We’re a bit biased, since Bantu is in our name, but we think Bantu Knots make the perfect statement. Plus, think about your wonderfully stretched Bantu Knot out when you decide to take them out. Talk about #winning!
10. Tapered Cut: At Bantu, we love a good cut! Check out this amazing color and style.
11. A Funky Updo: We love these braids feeding into this top knot. Add some hair into the knot to create a larger look. This is is creative!
12. Puff it out: We love a big puff any time of the year, and definitely for the premiere. Slick those sides down and puff out the top.
13. Chic Bob: Yvonne Orji looks amazing in this chic chin-length bob.
14. Loc Updos: We love the different looks Chloe & Halle wore to the Black Panther premiere. We wouldn’t change a thing!
...Or you can just go as you already are. No matter what you choose, it’s bound to be lit.
Alright ladies, that’s the round up of our favorite looks to rock. If you need to book a stylist, remember that Bantu is the easiest way to find a stylist near you
