Whilst out hacking on a beautiful summer’s day recently, my horse, Waldo, was badly spooked by a cyclist coming up behind us on a beautiful tree lined bridleway without warning. The result? My horse bolted and stumbled on the uneven ground. I somersaulted over the top and as I landed, I felt my head whip back on the soft, slightly cushioned earth in amongst the stinging nettles. Great! Don’t you just love cyclists!
Whilst my fall was on to soft earth, the simple fact is that I did bash my head. For all riders, this alone is the single reason why you need to get a new hat. Sadly for some this will not be the case. Even though they’ve bashed their heads hard enough for it to hurt, it will not be enough to galvanise them in to buying a new hat despite it being the most important piece of kit they’ll ever need along the fact that they’ve only got one head.
After recovering and returning to my desk at EQUUS HQ, I sat down and wrote a buying guide for riding hats. You may not be looking for a new hat at the moment, but when you do I hope you'll find it an invaluable and impartial guide to everything you need to know about hats.

Bookmark it today, and if you know a friend looking for a hat, do them a favour and share it with them.
Until next time, safe riding!
