The best day of my life
Guys, I've had an amazing year.
This summer, I had the privilege of being a digital developer for Obama's re-election campaign and it was the most important thing I've ever done.
Yesterday (earlier today?) I got a kick-ass Special Guest pass to watch the 2012 election and damn near had a heart-attack watching the numbers roll in.
In an arena full of democrats all rooting for the same guy, it was even still kind of lonely. I kept envisioning what this huge crowd of people would do if our guy lost. How would we even react? (Me, personally, I'd just go home).
However, when it was announced that President Obama was re-elected, I was ecstatic. MSNBC reported it first (at least where we were watching it) and I was incredibly skeptical at first. I felt like maybe the left-leaning news station had jumped the gun and didn't want to be disappointed if they did.
But luckily they didn't.
And America re-elected its first black president.
And it was the best day of my life.
This is the most important thing I've ever done, ever. This was my crowning moment. This is the thing I'm most proud of myself for. I helped President Obama get elected! I actually got to help!
We were all reveling in our success as we rode back to HQ and celebrated early. A team that was not digital team had cupcakes the size of my face, making me fleetingly wish for once that I was in a different department.
Afterward, the staff party at Trump Tower was cancelled (probably because it was at TRUMP TOWER, idk who even plans these things), so there was a party at a hotel, which we got kicked out of for being too loud, then went to someone's apartment, which we then also proceeded to get kicked out of for being too loud. Who an blame us though, really? The largest digital team on a political campaign was celebrating a victory that wouldn't have been the same without us.
There was a third party, but by this time it was 5:30 in the morning and I was too drunk and tired to do anything.
And now I'm here, half asleep, still drunk, getting packed to leave back for Austin to go to class, feet sore for standing for 6 hours and I couldn't be happier.
I am so thankful to have been a part of this amazing team, this incredible family. I love digital team so much, words cannot even adequately explain how proud I am of us and how much these people mean to me.
Later on today, I will probably fall asleep in my night classes. I will probably be dropped a letter grade in another for missing so many classes.
And I don't even care. Because tonight I witnessed history with the best people I know and there is nothing that can take that away.
